Custodian (Housekeeping) - SUFF

The Children's Center Head Start/Early Head Start is a federally funded program that provides no cost services to qualifying families who reside in the community. Comprehensive services are provided to pregnant women and their partners and children from birth to 5. Child development, health and family services are provided through a variety of program options designed to meet the needs of low-income and at risk families.
This position is responsible for the custodial care and maintenance of The Children's Center Buildings.
We have multiple OPENINGS in Suffolk that will work between our TWO Suffolk locations.
Individual must have valid driver's license and good driving record to be able to use agency vehicle to travel between locations.
Our custodians...
* Daily Duties:
* Empties and cleans waste receptacles in all areas including classrooms, bathrooms, conference rooms, lounge and offices. Partners with the kitchen staff to empty the main kitchen area receptacles
* Restrooms
* Restocks restroom supplies - including paper towels and toilet paper
* Clean and sanitize all counters and sinks
* Clean and sanitize toilet
* Clean and shine mirrors and fixtures
* Mop and sanitize floor
* Staff Kitchen area/Lounge
* Clean and sanitize outside all appliances, large and small
* Clean and sanitize all counters and sinks
* Clean and sanitize stove top
* Clean and sanitize microwave interior
* Dust and spot clean cabinet exteriors
* Hand wipe table and chairs
* Hand wipe small appliances
* Vacuum and mop floor
* Cleans and sanitizes water fountains
* Vacuums and spot-cleans carpets in all areas - including halls, lounges, conference rooms, work spaces, offices, and bathrooms
* Sweeps all non-carpeted areas - including halls, lounges, work spaces, and bathrooms. Partners with teaching staff to sweep the classrooms
* Mops all non-carpeted areas including halls, lounges, workspaces, and bathrooms
* Dust furniture in all common areas
* Weekly Duties:
* Polishes furniture in all common areas
* Wipe woodwork
* Baseboards
* door frames
* windowsills
* Cabinet exteriors
* Paneling
* Windows
* Clean interior windows
* Clean sliding glass doors
* Clean french doors
* Clean Blinds & Windowsills
* Walls
* Spot clean walls
* Standard tasks:
* Removes cobwebs
* Dust windowsills and decorative items
* Dust wall hangings and furniture
* Dust blinds and ceiling fans (within reach)
* General tidying
* Vacuum all floors
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION
* Must be at least 18 years of age
* Must have High School diploma and GED
* Ability to read, write and perform basic mathematical calculations
* Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years
* Must have a valid Driver's License with a good driving record
* Must demonstrate good communication skills
* Must be able to work 1:00 PM - 9:30 PM
* Must be able to travel between Suffolk Centers as it is a requirement
Physical Demands/Work Environment
* Working conditions:
* The work is typically performed while standing and walking or while intermittently sitting, or stooping. The employee frequently lifts light and medium weight objects and occasionally heavy objects. The employee may climb ladders. The employee uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, distinguishes between shades of color, and utilizes the sense of smell.
* The work is typically performed in an office and outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather. The employee may be exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, contagious or infectious diseases, or irritating chemicals. Work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc.
* This position is classified as medium work for physical exertion requirements. Medium work involves lifting no more than 50 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds. If someone can do medium work, we determine that he or she can also do sedentary and light work.
* The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud
* Wears protective clothing and/or Personal Protective Equipment required by the work environment or governmental regulations
* Will be exposed to various cleaning chemicals
* Physical Activity requirements:
* Employee is required to obtain the assistance of another employee when attempting to lift or carry objects in excess of 85 pounds. Employee buffs, polishes, strips, and waxes floors using heavy equipment. Employee needs to have the ability to work in a standing position for long periods of time (up to 8 hours). Employee must be aware that during the normal, routine performance of the essential functions, some of the following body movements may occur naturally, although they may not be a requirement of the job:
