Advancement to Maintenance Custodian is based on need and the ability to perform semi-skilled craft work and assist in skilled trades. RequirementsEssential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assures cleanliness of public entry and use areas including, but not limited to hallways, stairways, eating/break room areas, and meeting and conference facilities. Cleans and disinfects drinking fountains, door handles, and door push plates. Sweeps hard floors and vacuums and cleans carpets.
- Cleans and polishes tables, desks, and bookcases. Washes interior and exterior windows.
- Cleans, dusts, and disinfects restrooms including floors, stalls, toilets, urinals, sinks, and fixtures. Removes trash and waste. Cleans trash receptacles and replaces liners. Ensures that towel, soap, cleanser, and other dispensers are adequately stocked.
- Performs minor repairs and adjustments on furniture, as necessary and appropriate. Repairs electrical cords. Unclogs, repairs, or replaces dispensers, as necessary. Resets ceiling panels. Adjusts bookcase shelves. Repairs minor carpet damage.
- Makes minor plumbing adjustments, unclogging toilets and sinks, tightening toilet seats, etc. Cleans water jets to enhance flows on decorative and drinking fountains. Oils door hinges and wall panel glide tracks. Tightens loose fixtures.
- Makes repairs to or replaces lighting registers, apparatus, lights, and ceiling tiles.
- Maintains safe and clean walkways and grounds surrounding City facilities. Mows lawns and trims trees and ornamental plants. Picks up litter. Empties and cleans outdoor waste receptacles.
- Rearranges, moves, and sets furniture and equipment according to established instructions and seating arrangements. Participates with others to assemble furniture, removing from and properly disposing of packaging materials.
- Sets up and takes down seating and equipment for events, including, Council, conference room, and event venues.
- Turns lights on and off. Unlocks and locks doors and gates. Raises and lowers flags.
- Maintains various supplies and equipment used in the course of work. Receives, stores and distributes office supplies or catering items. Maintains related records and files.
- Performs major cleaning involving stripping, sealing, and refinishing hard floors. Steam/dry cleans and shampoos carpets and fabric furniture. Cleans tiled areas.
- Checks doors, windows, and assigned area for vandalism. Reports safety, sanitary, and fire hazards.
- Observes pedestrian/visitor activity at the assigned site, reporting unusual activity or behavior to the appropriate level of authority.
- Completes work order requests for custodial services. Checks time sheets of hours worked including those for temporary help, as assigned. Completes departmental forms for internal use.
- Documents work activities, inspections, unanticipated occurrences, and MSD sheets.
- May serve on a call list for alarm systems.
- Performs other duties as assigned that support the overall objective of the position.
