CustodianREPORTS TO: Director of Maintenance and Facilities/Building Principal CLASSIFICATION: 12 Month Support Staff STATUS: Non-Exempt JOB SUMMARY: Provide a safe, orderly, sanitary environment, conducive to learning, for all students and faculty. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintain all school buildings, ensuring a clean and orderly condition by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, and vacuuming classrooms, library, hallways, stairs, cafeteria, gymnasium, and office space.
- Assist with maintenance projects as needed; perform minor maintenance repairs and/or upkeep such as painting, replacing light bulbs, air conditioner filters and other related maintenance duties.
- Maintain personal access to the buildings.
- Perform carpentry duties including furniture assembly and repair.
- Maintain floors including stripping, waxing, and refinishing; shampoo rugs and carpets.
- Clean snow and debris from sidewalks and parking lots using a snow blower or snowplow; mow lawn, trim shrubbery and perform other landscaping duties as needed or required.
- Open and close building, secure all doors and windows; promptly report major repairs as needed to supervisors.
- Remove trash from the building, cafeteria, and outside trashcans; dispose in appropriate location.
- Oversee the set up of all gym events, such as, basketball, wrestling, volleyball, and others.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Maintenance and Facilities and Building Principal.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Some experience in custodial work preferred
- High school diploma necessary
- Knowledge and understanding of various cleaning chemicals is necessary
- Submission of pre-employment medical examination (Section 148 of the Pennsylvania School Code)
- Submission of a report of criminal history record from the Pennsylvania State Police (Section 111 of the Pennsylvania School Code)
- Submission of a clearance report from the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare in accordance with Act 151 of 1994
- Submission of Federal Criminal History Record in accordance with Act 114 of 2006
- Submission of the Arrest/Conviction Report and Certification Form as required under Act 24 of 2011
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Ability to reach above and below the waist
- Ability to use fingers to pick, feel and grasp objects
- Ability to use both hands for repetitive motion
- Ability to bend, twist, kneel, stoop, climb, and crawl
- Ability to lift and/or carry supplies weighing no more than 75 lbs.
- Ability to mostly stand, walk or move throughout the workday

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions
- Must be able to work in extreme cold (32 degrees or less) and extreme heat (90 degrees or more)
