IntroductionThe Department of Health Services (DHS), Mendota Mental Health Institute (MMHI) is currently recruiting to fill Custodian positions. MMHI is located on the north side of Madison and offers a beautiful campus environment, convenient free parking, and an onsite workout facility. MMHI is an inpatient psychiatric facility, with one outpatient program, specializing in serving patients with complex psychiatric conditions, often combined with certain problem behaviors. Position SummaryAs a Custodian, you will be responsible for performing a variety of cleaning and maintenance tasks at MMHI. Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Operating automatic cleaning equipment, such as automatic scrubbers, sweepers, and wall washers, wet/dry vacuums, and carpet cleaning equipment
- Stripping and sealing of floors
- Cleaning toilets, showers, and furniture
- Shoveling snow
- Replacing light bulbs
Salary InformationPay for this position is $16.18 per hour f or hires after June 30, 2024, plus excellent benefits. This is a minimum increase for all Custodian positions. A 12-month probationary period is required. A $2,000 sign-on bonus applies to those with no prior state service in the last five years who stay with MMHI until completing probation. Bonus will be split, $1,000 upon hire and $1,000 after completing probation. Must sign an agreement to remain in the position until completing probation. Employees who do not remain in the position for any reason through the probationary period, must reimburse DHS the sign-on bonus, unless DHS agrees otherwise. Pay for current or former state employees is set based upon the rules that apply to compensation for the applicable transaction. This position is in pay schedule and range 03/08.
Job DetailsAll applicants will be required to allow the DHS to conduct a background check to determine whether the circumstances of any convictions may be related to the job being filled. All appointees will be required to receive a TB test, which will be administered by MMHI or medical personnel approved by the facility prior to their start date. These positions have physical requirements which may include but are not limited to lifting up to 50 pounds, standing, climbing, bending, reaching, and twisting. Applicants may be required to pass a physical evaluation to assess these requirements. DHS does not sponsor work visas for this position, thus, in compliance with federal law, selected candidates will be required to verify eligibility to work in the United States by completing the required I-9 form upon hire.
QualificationsMinimally qualified applicants will have the following:
- Ability to work scheduled hours as needed, which may include weekends, holidays, early morning or early evenings, and overtime as needed.
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions, and able to accept work assignment changes as needed.
- Ability to follow proper safety standards when using chemical cleaning agents.
- Ability to use cleaning tools and appropriate sanitizing procedures.
