TERM: §18A-4-8; extended employment terms may be established. SALARY: Pursuant to WV Code §18A-4-8a, in accordance with Mason County Salary Scale, Pay Grade A, B, C, or D commensurate with experience and education level EVALUATION: Performance in this position will be evaluated annually by the building principal/immediate supervisor and in accordance with WV State Code §18A-2-12, WV State Board Policy 5314. JOB SUMMARY: The custodian keeps the county buildings in such a state of operating excellence that they present no problems or interruptions to the educational program. The custodian performs assigned custodial duties and repairs and receives supervision from the building administrator. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: Additional duties may be assigned.
- Maintains regular attendance
- Cleans and preserves designated spaces, equipment, etc. in the building.
- Cleans classrooms, offices, libraries, restrooms, and common areas including but not limited to chalkboards, dusting and emptying trash receptacles, vacuuming, washing windows, and replenishing supplies.
- Scrubs, mops, disinfects and polishes hard-surfaced floors in restrooms, cafeteria, hallways, classrooms using brooms, mops, and buffer.
- Clean rugs and carpets with vacuum cleaner.
- Dispose of trash and waste materials.
- Clean doors, door facings, and walls with disinfectant.
- Assist in moving equipment.
- Check and replace light bulbs.
- Sweep sidewalks around buildings.
- Clean shower rooms and gym.
- Help remove snow and clear sidewalk of ice.
- Operate and maintain weed eater, lawn mower, floor scrubber, floor buffer, and vacuum cleaner.
- Arrange table and chairs for breakfast and lunch.
- Secure the building at night.
- Operate hand and small power tools.
- Prepare facilities for activities and clean up after the activities.
- Shampoo carpets.
- Perform inspections for fire extinguishers and emergency lighting.
- Clean ceiling and restroom vents.
- Be able to lift all supplies and materials pertaining to the custodian position.
- Maintains an inventory of supplies and equipment and requests supplies in advance so as not to hinder the continued performance of the building custodial duties.
- Complies with State Law and County Policies.
- Corrects minor safety hazards when observed and/or immediately refers major safety hazards to building supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS: High School diploma or equivalent, pursuant to WV Code §18A-2-5; Criminal background check conducted pursuant to WV Code §18-5-15c; Meet the definition of Qualifications in WV Code §18A-4-8b; demonstrated competency, pursuant to WV Code §18A-4-8e (state-approved competency test) as required.
