- Plan and prepare for all assigned tasks as outlined on the building-specific task list, ensuring completion according to established procedures.
- Maintain hazard-free work areas by using appropriate precautions and signage during all tasks.
- Assist with special projects, including setup and takedown tasks, as directed by the Facilities Director or Custodial Maintenance Team Leaders/Supervisors.
- Clean, maintain, and store all equipment per the designated maintenance schedule, ensuring proper storage in assigned areas. Report any hazards or significant repair needs via a work order.
- Maintain accurate maintenance checklists and inventory records.
- Submit maintenance requests through the online work order system; report emergency maintenance needs to campus security through the quickest communication method available.
- Ensure safe use and storage of cleaning chemicals, including proper labeling and compliance with disposal procedures. Provide personal protective equipment (PPE) and train staff and students on proper usage.
- Conduct monthly safety equipment checks as directed. Follow all college safety policies and procedures.
Student Employee Supervisor
- Participate in the hiring and dismissal process for student employees.
- Develop work schedules and task assignments for student employees.
- Train students on the correct performance of assigned tasks and provide safety training.
- Monitor and evaluate student performance, providing feedback through performance appraisals.
Other duties as assigned, including but not limited to the following
- Unlock doors according to schedule of areas assigned.
- Report damages, safety hazards, or missing inventory to the appropriate authorities.
- Direct concerns of students, faculty, and staff to immediate supervisor.
- Keep building entrances, steps, and fire escapes clean and free of hazards.
- Manage and account for issued keys.
- Assist with snow removal according to the campus snow removal plan.
- Perform additional related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Ability to learn and effectively operate custodial equipment.
- Must be able to work independently as well with others.
- Basic ability and knowledge of cleaning methods and light maintenance practices.
- Capable of managing and accounting for inventories of tools, custodial equipment, furniture, and supplies for assigned building(s).
- Ability to be flexible in work assignments (start time, split schedule, day of week, weekends).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to perform duties without direct supervision.
- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality regarding sensitive information, documents, and work area exposure.
- Attend instructional meetings on the proper use of safety kits for handling and disposing of harmful chemicals and hazardous waste spills. Annual training requirement per OSHA and institution safety requirements.
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be physically capable of performing all required custodial tasks, including prolonged standing, walking, bending, stooping, and kneeling.
- Sight and hearing impairments must not interfere with performance of duties.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull items weighing up to 40 pounds.
- Must have tolerance to work safely with and around cleaning chemicals, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as needed.
- Capability to work in varying environmental conditions, including exposure to dust, odors, high or low temperatures, and outdoor weather during snow removal or other tasks.
