CUSTODIAN (220 days) QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Must comply with all employment criteria legally established by the Lee County Board of Education.
  • Knowledge and ability to operate hand tools, electrical and gasoline tools, lawnmowers, tractors, weed-eaters, scrubbing machines, vacuums, and other machines.
  • Demonstrated aptitude or competence for assigned responsibilities.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of sixty pounds.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
  • Background Check Required: (HB 402 ACT 99-361 Alabama Legislature) Upon offer of employment, employees will be required to submit legible fingerprints for a background review by the Alabama Bureau of Investigation and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. REPORTS TO: Building Principal. JOB GOAL: To provide students with a safe, attractive, comfortable, clean, and efficient place in which to learn, play, and develop. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Applicable to All Employees:
    • Attend on a regular and predictable basis.
    • Complete assigned tasks in a safe manner and in a constant state of alertness.
    • Uphold Board policies, including the anti-harassment program.
    • Work in a cooperative manner with students, teachers, staff, supervisors, and the public.
    • Work effectively and efficiently under time and productivity standards.
    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Keeps building and premises, including sidewalks, driveways, and play areas, neat and clean at all times.
  • Clean hallways, restrooms and entrances after school each day, and during the day when their condition requires it.
  • Sweeps classrooms daily and dusts furniture.
  • Removes trash from the building and campus daily in accordance with local laws and procedures for the storage and disposal of trash, rubbish, and waste.
  • Keeps the campus free from rubbish.
  • Cleans and disinfects restrooms to include toilets, urinals, sinks, mirrors, floors, walls, etc., daily and drinking fountains daily.
  • Cleans all chalkboards at least once a week.
  • Sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, stripping, vacuuming and otherwise caring for the floors to keep the floors in a clean and attractive condition and in a good state of preservation.
  • Cleans walls, ceilings, vents, windows (inside and out), etc.
  • Cuts grass with push lawnmower, riding lawnmower, tractor and bushhog, weedeater and hand tools.
  • Makes minor plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and other handyman type building repairs
  • Reports major repairs needed promptly to the Head Custodian and Principal.
  • Reports immediately to the principal any damage to school property.
  • Moves furniture or equipment within buildings as required for various activities and as directed by the principal.
  • Transports, loads, and unloads supplies and equipment as needed.
  • Keeps an inventory of supplies, equipment, and fuel on hand, and requisitions such needed replacements far enough in advance to ensure delivery in a timely manner to not hinder the tasks to be completed.
  • Other duties as assigned by the principal or assistant principal.

ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS: The environmental demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential responsibilities and functions of the job and are not meant to be all inclusive. Exposure to a variety of childhood and adult diseases and illnesses. Occasional exposure to a variety of weather conditions. Exposure to heated/air conditioned and ventilated facilities. Exposure to a building in which a variety of chemical substances are used for cleaning, instruction, and/or operation of equipment. Function in a workplace that is usually moderately quiet but that can be noisy at times. EMPLOYMENT: This is an eleven-month contract (220 days). Salary range is $26,928 - $32,619. Salary range is based upon the board approved salary schedule. WORK SCHEDULE: The work day shall be established by the building principal but shall not exceed 8.0 hours per day, excluding 1/2 hour for a duty free lunch, unless other arrangements are made by the building principal. EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of Support Personnel.
