Incumbent serves as Custodian for the Madison County Youth Center.
DUTIES:
* Cleans assigned Youth Center buildings and offices by sweeping and mopping floors; washing and sanitizing sinks, toilets, and mirrors; dusting furniture and fixtures; washing walls, windows, and doors; emptying and sanitizing trash/recycle receptacles.
* Cleans Youth Center kitchen by sweeping and sanitizing floors; washing and sanitizing sinks; cleaning and sanitizing kitchen surfaces, equipment, and appliances; dusting furniture and fixtures; washing walls, windows, and doors; emptying and sanitizing trash/recycle receptacles.
* Maintains necessary cleaning supplies and paper products in all areas.
* Shampoo carpets and upholstery as needed.
* Assists in kitchen food preparation and serving on occasion.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
* High school diploma or GED.
* Ability to physically perform custodial duties and safely operate various cleaning equipment and kitchen appliances.
* Knowledge of Indiana Department of Correction and State Board of Health standards regarding kitchen operations and sanitation.
* Ability to follow oral and written instructions, work on several tasks simultaneously, and work rapidly for long periods, often under time pressure.
* Ability to meet all Center hiring and retention requirements, including background checks.
* Proof of current physical exam (within 3 months before employment) and current TB shot (within 1 year of employment).
* Applicants must submit to and pass a pre-employment drug screen.
* Possess a valid driver's license, insurance, and safe driving record.
RESPONSIBILITY:
Incumbent performs various custodial duties according to standard custodial practices and receives complete and specific instructions from the supervisor. Care is needed to maintain the condition of equipment and safely perform duties.
The incumbent reports directly to the Administrative Supervisor.
PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The incumbent performs the majority of duties in a non-sitting position, involving moderate to heavy lifting, bending, reaching, carrying, walking, climbing, and operating various types of cleaning equipment and kitchen appliances. Physical effort is frequently exerted for sustained periods of time. Incumbent may be exposed to dust, dirt, germs, bodily fluids, cold temperatures (walk-in refrigerator/freezer), and other hazards normally associated with custodial and kitchen duties. Safety precautions must be followed at all times to avoid injury to self and others.
