TEMPLETON UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT JOB DESCRIPTION CLASS TITLE: UTILITY WORKER/CUSTODIAN DEFINITION: Under general supervision of the Director of MOT and immediate direction of an appropriate Supervisor or Lead Worker, performs work in the field of maintenance, operations, transportation, or grounds. RESPONSIBILITIES: Performs duties of a custodian, cleans and maintains all floor surfaces, wall surfaces, windows and window coverings, furniture and woodwork. Empties and cleans waste receptacles. Cleans and supplies restrooms. Makes non-technical repairs. Takes responsibility for condition of cleaning equipment. Sets up for special events or meetings. Picks up outside litter. Performs unskilled labor tasks under the immediate direction of a staff member in the field in the maintenance, operations, grounds or transportation departments. Duties may include construction, repair, maintenance, grounds-keeping, custodial, deliveries or other job fields. Assignment fields and tasks will vary with the season, school schedules and needs of the district. QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge of: Modern cleaning methods. Proper use of materials and equipment used in custodial, maintenance, grounds-keeping and transportation. Ability to: Learn quickly. Work independently. Carry out oral and written instructions. Perform strenuous labor. Readily adjust to assignments in different fields. Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationship with others. Communicate in writing for the purposes of composing the required reports and other correspondence. Read, write, and understand the English language. Make simple mathematical calculations. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Education equivalent to 12th grade completion. One year of experience in manual labor, preferably to include some custodial duties. LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Valid California Driver's License. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: of this position are, but not limited to, the following: Ability to: See for purposes of reading labels, custodial records and other printed matter. Understand speech at normal levels in person or on the telephone. Communicate so others will be able to clearly understand a normal conversation in person or on the telephone. Operate cleaning equipment and tools with dexterity. Routinely lift/carry equipment and supplies weighing up to 25 pounds and to occasionally lift/carry equipment and supplies weighing up to 75 pounds. Adapt to indoor and outdoor working environments that include bending, crouching and kneeling, pushing/pulling of equipment and supplies. Reach in all directions. Stand and or walk for long periods of time. Work on ladders. Work with solvents, detergents, and other cleaning chemicals.
