What you will be doing
Reporting to the Finance Manager, the Customs Specialist is responsible for the timely and accurate filing of entries with U.S. Customs and Border Protection and the ultimate delivery of goods to our customers. The Customs Specialist will also support and participate in the daily operations of the department.

- Ensure delivery of accurate and timely entries, dispatch of cargo to ultimate consignee, and follow up regarding proof-of-delivery.
- Ensure accuracy of billing.
- Oversee ISF and the Cargowise systems and develop or improve operational processes that Compliance & Training standards and SOPs and customer SOP requirements.
- Drive operational efficiency through strategic collaboration and seamless integration with Operations teams.
- Develop comprehensive client performance analytics and deliver strategic insights through customized status reporting.
- Execute team entry and billing audits to ensure accuracy, assessing training needs as required.
- Adhere to, train and advise team in areas of Customs Brokerage Regulations.
- Drive team excellence through performance metrics analysis while ensuring compliance with quality standards and financial controls through systematic documentation audits.
- Monitor challenging files and implement corrective action when needed.
- Orchestrate efficient workflow processes by implementing clear protocols for file management, release coordination, billing accuracy, and quality control.
- Ensure trade compliance through rigorous validation of critical documentation, including country of origin certifications, IOR requirements, commercial terms, and customs valuation to maintain regulatory excellence.
- Daily follow-up on documentation discrepancy issues which requires the ability to troubleshoot and communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing with customers and foreign origins.
- Escalate any unresolved issues or risks before they materially impact the organization.
- Work closely with other departments and branches to deliver high level of service to customers.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
What skills & experience you will bring to us
- Minimum 3+ years of relevant customs experience in freight forwarding or brokerage.
- CBLE Customs Broker license considered a strong asset.
- Strong knowledge of US customs, HS codes, and government regulations.
- Ability to communicate persuasively, with confidence, and professionalism.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with a focus on relationship building.
- Sound judgment, with a well-developed sense for risk identification, assessment, and management.
- Demonstrated experience in conducting reviews of compliance certifications, agreements, and regulatory procedural documents to determine gaps and opportunities for improvement.
- Strong problem-solving and negotiating skills.
- Critical thinker, capable of discerning the nuances and subtleties of complex compliance issues.
- Demonstrate comprehensive expertise in operational excellence, financial controls, quality management systems, and HR compliance to drive organizational standards.
- Proficiency in MS Office, with intermediate/advanced Excel skills.
- Experience with Cargowise is preferred.
