Data Center Engineer

Location: Onsite in OKC 3x/week

Employment Type: Full-time

Salary Range: $90,000 - $110,000/year

Summary: A Data Center Administrator is responsible for managing and maintaining the infrastructure of a data center to ensure optimal performance, availability, and security. This role involves monitoring physical and virtual infrastructure, ensuring compliance with standards, and managing vendor relationships.

Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and maintain the physical and virtual infrastructure, including servers, networks, and storage systems.
  • Install, configure, and troubleshoot hardware and software components.
  • Manage system capacity and performance, ensuring efficient operation and resource utilization.
  • Ensure data security and compliance with organizational policies and industry standards.
  • Perform regular backups and disaster recovery operations.
  • Maintain documentation such as operations manuals, rack diagrams, and floorplans.
  • Coordinate with vendors for hardware and software procurement and support.
  • Support access control systems to protect against physical security risks.
  • Monitor environmental conditions like HVAC and power systems to ensure optimal operating conditions.
  • Ensure someone is always available to allow access to the data center for vendors or others.
  • Optimize the data center environment, ensuring everything is labeled and monitored, and removing redundant cables.
  • Ensure compliance with required standards when people are working in the data center, including writing and defining requirements.
  • Plan appropriately to ensure capacity for new additions.
  • Understand what it takes to run a data power center, working with engineers and understanding diagrams.
  • Implement and manage UPS systems with A and B power.
  • Advise on equipment purchases and approve budget requests, including larger demands that require budgeting and planning.
  • Manage the transition to IAAS for mainframe operations, working with vendors.

Must-Have Qualifications:

  • Experience in monitoring and maintaining data center facilities.
  • Strong organizational skills to ensure cleanliness and optimization of the data center environment.
  • Ability to enforce standards and ensure compliance.
  • Experience in capacity planning and vendor management.
  • Understanding of power and cooling systems, including HVAC systems.
  • Budgeting and financial planning skills.
  • Experience managing mainframe support and transitioning to IAAS for mainframe operations.

Compensation:

$90K-110K/year

Exact compensation may vary based on several factors, including skills, experience, and education.
