Office of the Illinois Secretary of State Alexi GiannouliasJob Title: Information Systems Specialist I - Data Center Services SpecialistDivision: Data Center ServicesUnion: IFTLocation: 2701 S Dirksen Pkwy, Springfield, IL - Sangamon CountySalary: Starting at $5,483.00 monthly - commensurate with experience.Overview:Plans, implements, coordinates and evaluates complex technical software functions for mainframe software area; installs, modifies, evaluates and reviews software and software functions for the assigned area; advises and trains technical software staff. Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Participates in the review, evaluation and preparation of software packages for system loading and systems generation, prepares and maintains the mainframe system software; prepares and maintains programs to process mainframe journals to create files used for statistical reporting; codes special program as requested.
  • Participates with the implementation and maintenance of designed software which interfaces system programs and hardware; prepares and maintains system communications systems; applies tested known error corrections to software modules.
  • Advises users and data processing management and systems analysis staff, assists application programmers with production problems by interpreting technical manuals, debugging problems; preparing documentation; assist in on-line updated file recovery procedures.
  • Performs extensive maintenance functions for mainframe software; interprets operating system memory dumps and makes system technical action requests; tests and implements solutions resulting from PTF s and APAR's; maintains third party software and monitors for various subsystems; provides 24 hour technical support for operating system software.
  • Coordinates and participates in system tuning and measurement functions monitoring mainframe system execution reports and information extracted from systems logs for system performance.
  • Coordinates operating system software functions with other software functions, operations and systems and programming to provide optimum user service.
  • Assists data processing staff in use of utility packages; prepares interactive web based routines to serve as documentation aids and general aids; provides technical assistance to other sections of Information Technology.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned.
Education and Experience: Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to the completion of two years of college with coursework in the computer science field OR 2.5 years of technical systems and/or programming experience as would be gained as an Information Systems Technician OR any equivalent combination of education and experience and/or IT project management.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Requires working knowledge of systems design and implementation, including the way programs are written, compiled, and tested, the methods of operating computers, and the way data is transcribed into a form suitable for reading by computer.
  • Requires working knowledge of the devices for capturing data for computers and the means available for receiving and transmitting data from remote locations to a computer.
  • Requires working knowledge of the advantages and limitations of computer communication, and information retrieval systems as management information tools.
  • Requires working knowledge of the methods, procedures, and techniques of conducting feasibility studies for converting to computer applications.
  • Requires the ability to organize facts and findings, analyze data logically and to present results with clarity and comprehension, orally, in written or graphic form.
  • Requires the ability to use and understanding of appropriate methods, tools, applications, and processes.
  • Requires the ability to approach work in a rational and organized manner.
  • Requires the ability to exercise sound judgement in analyzing, appraising, evaluating, and solving problems of a procedural, organizational, administrative, and technical nature.
  • Requires ability to adhere to organizational standards for security, privacy, and ethics.
  • Requires willingness to travel and possession of a valid Illinois driver's license as required by individual positions within the class.
