The Position The Data Engineer will be a vital member of the Financial Operations and IT Teams and will support the company with the collection and storage of essential information and data. They will investigate opportunities for efficiency and improvement and create and streamline processes. They will troubleshoot problems with retrieving data and ensure that the company has enough storage available for the data that is collected. This individual will collaborate closely across departments, including IT, Finance, Accounting, Legal, Operations, People & Culture, Payroll, Marketing, and more.
Specific Responsibilities - Develop standards of operation when handling and archiving data.
- Maintain data management plans and instructions for operating our network of business systems.
- Design, develop, and modify data infrastructure to improve processes of data analysis and reporting.
- Coordinate with other team members to reach project milestones and deadlines.
- Identify areas for improvement in current systems.
- Develop standards of operation when handling and archiving data.
- Maintain security protocol.
- Oversee the integration of new technologies and initiatives into data standards and structures.
- Evaluate the design, selection, and implementation of database changes by comparing them with business requirements and design documents.
- Assess system performance and make recommendations for hardware, software, and data storage improvements.
- Ensure data and information security by integrating and upholding digital security systems.
- Assist in basic maintenance of custom software application built in-house, which serves as our hospitals' KPI dashboard and CareVet intranet.
- Ad-hoc projects as assigned.
Skills and Experience - Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, or related field.
- 5+ years of relevant experience.
- Knowledge of data visualization platforms such as Power BI and Tableau; experience with Power BI highly preferred.
- Knowledge of different database systems including Microsoft SQL, Redshift, Oracle, etc.
- Ability to analyze, interpret, and organize large amounts of data.
- Advanced proficiency in SQL database and API management.
- Knowledge of different programming languages such as R, Python, Java, React, etc.
- Excellent communication skills to translate complex problems into digestible terms.
- In-depth understanding of modern database and information technologies.
- Strong math, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
- Exceptional time management skills.
- Ability to compile and organize findings and data retrieved before presenting it to management.
- Thorough understanding of management and data administration duties such as collection, analysis, and distribution.
