The Position

Data Engineer and BI Specialist

Location

Chicago, IL (On-site)

Overview:

The Data Engineer and BI Specialist will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining data pipelines, managing our BI platforms, and ensuring the availability of accurate and actionable data insights. This role requires a hands-on expert who can work independently to handle the entire data lifecycle.

Essential Functions:

  • Build and maintain ETL pipelines to ensure seamless integration of diverse data sources (ERP, CRM, e-commerce platforms)
  • Optimize data storage, retrieval, and processing to support BI initiatives.
  • Develop and manage DOMO/Power BI dashboards and reports to provide insights to stakeholders
  • Partner with business leaders to identify reporting needs and define KPIs
  • Implement data governance and quality best practices
  • Write, optimize, and maintain complex SQL queries for data extraction and manipulation
  • Implement and manage indexing strategies to enhance database performance
  • Train business users on DOMO self-service capabilities
  • Act as a bridge between technical teams and business stakeholders to ensure alignment of deliverables
  • Utilize Python for data processing, automation, and advanced analytics tasks
  • Maintain automation jobs on Linux VM machines
  • Ensure data quality, consistency, and security across all data platforms
  • Monitor and troubleshoot data systems to ensure high availability and performance
  • Stay current with industry trends and best practices in data engineering and analytics

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Data Engineering or Data Science
  • 3+ years of experience in data engineering, business intelligence, and analytics
  • 3+ years of experience in DOMO, Azure Data Factory, Power BI (our legacy reports), and SQL
  • Strong expertise in ETL processes and tools, including data transformation in DOMO
  • Strong experience with Python for data processing and automation
  • In-depth knowledge of database management, indexing strategies, and query optimization
  • Experience with cloud platforms (preferably Azure) and big data technologies
  • Proficient in working with Linux systems, including using command-line tools and performing system administration tasks

The Ideal Candidate Has/Is:

  • DOMO certification(s) (e.g., DOMO Professional, DOMO Specialist) highly desirable
  • Experience with enterprise systems such as NetSuite and Shopify preferred
  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Engineer Associate
  • Microsoft Certified: Data Analyst Associate
  • Certified Business Intelligence Professional (CBIP)
  • Exceptional work ethic and motivation to meet strict deadlines
  • Excellent written and verbal communicator
  • Outstanding organizational skills, with keen attention to detail and diligent task follow-through
