Job Title: Data Specialist Reports to: Director of Technology Minimum Qualifications:
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a computer technical, information systems, or related field preferred.
  • Experience working with data collection, reporting and analyzing information for several departments.
  • Have financial and accounting knowledge.
  • Experience working in a school district or school environment, or related field preferred.
Job Summary: The Data Specialist is also responsible for all state reporting requirements and outside agencies exports. Training and assistance duties include assisting in the technical preparation of payroll data exports, providing assistance for department or site programs and projects; training Finance and administrative staff regarding the use of the financial information system and any office productivity software as it relates to the FIS program; assist in the development of any custom forms, reports or exports for the FIS program; and perform related work as required. Essential Job Functions:
  • Financial information systems and supporting programs. Updating payroll scales, creating and updating accounts, applying budget information to accounts. Manage district assets, Examples: PowerSchool's eFinance Plus, System 3000, Software unlimited
  • Principles, theories, problems and practices pertaining to computer operations, peripheral equipment and customer support.
  • Windows/MAC computer operating systems, Microsoft Office Suite or other word processing, spreadsheet, desktop publishing and database management software.
  • Financial system management procedures and requirements with regard to record-keeping and report preparation techniques, managing user privileges and security best practices,
  • Experience using analytics, business intelligence (BI) tools to create reports, help users analyze data, perform predictive forecasting and make business decisions. Example: IBM Cognos, Tableau, Microsoft Power BI, SAP Business Objects BI suite.
  • Financial reporting standards for U.S. state and local governments that follow generally accepted accounting principles established by GASB
  • Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy.
  • Principles of training and providing help desk support for computer, network, Internet usage.
  • Relational Databases like Oracle, MySQL, Microsoft SQL
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Troubleshoot various technical issues related to the financial information system via phone, e-mail or in person.
  • Consult with in-house IT staff for issues that may need to be escalated to outside technical support representatives to resolve the issue.
  • Provide one-on-one or group training to finance staff on the financial information system, as their job position requires, including any other software application that may be used in conjunction with the financial information system.
  • Compile and prepare a variety of record extracts, and reports related to the financial information system data to be sent to the federal government, state, district, banking and other outside agencies, departments within the district and staff.
  • Work with in-house staff and vendors on software and hardware installations, troubleshooting, administration, maintenance of equipment, planning and executing software updates related to the financial Information system.
  • Attend a variety of meetings with district personnel to exchange information concerning financial information system software projects, support staff, data, implementation and maintenance.
  • Assist with district efforts to enhance the financial information system to better serve the needs of the users and the community.
  • Attend assigned conferences, user group meetings, state, and vendor sites to provide and receive training.
  • Assist in the creation of user documentation, manuals and other advanced technical documents.
  • Performs other duties as assigned that support the overall objective of the position.

  • Troubleshoot basic network problems related to the financial information systems and client computers.
  • Meet schedules and timelines.

  • Prioritize and schedule work.
  • Review and verify input and output data to assure accuracy and efficiency.
Terms of Employment:
  • 12 month position.
