Job Summary:Responsible for the effective management, monitoring, and maintenance of the organization's data storage and backup systems. This role ensures the integrity, security, and availability of organizational data, implementing strategies for disaster recovery, and ensuring proper backup processes. The Administrator will work closely with other IT team members (change to the Deputy CIO) to improve storage solutions, implement system upgrades, and ensure compliance with organizational standards.Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Oversee and manage data storage systems, ensuring efficient data retrieval and optimized storage capacity.
  • Monitor storage utilization and implement proactive measures to manage space efficiently.
  • Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot network-attached storage (NAS), storage area networks (SAN), and cloud-based storage solutions.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain backup strategies to ensure critical data is properly backed up and securely stored.
  • Monitor the backup processes to ensure all backups are completed successfully, performing routine testing and verification.
  • Work with disaster recovery teams to develop and test recovery plans, ensuring data can be restored in case of an emergency.
  • Implement and manage data protection policies, ensuring encryption, access controls, and security protocols are followed.
  • Perform regular audits to ensure compliance with organizational and regulatory data protection standards.
  • Monitor the performance of storage systems, identifying and resolving any performance issues.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot backup software, storage hardware, and related infrastructure.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of backup configurations, disaster recovery plans, and storage procedures.
  • Provide regular reports on backup status, storage health, and data protection metrics to management.
  • Collaborate with network, server, and systems administrators (change to the Deputy CIO) to optimize storage and backup solutions for the entire IT infrastructure.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to end-users regarding data storage and backup-related issues.
Education and Experience:
  • At least 2 years working in a Systems Administrator role.
  • At least 3 year experience interacting with end users in a helpdesk position.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Proven experience in data storage, backup management, and disaster recovery.
  • Experience with backup solutions such as Veeam, or similar.
  • Familiarity with storage hardware such as NAS, SAN, and cloud storage solutions.
  • Certifications such as CompTIA Storage+, Veeam Certified Engineer, or related backup and storage certifications a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of storage and backup systems, including configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with scripting or automation tools (e.g., PowerShell).
  • Familiarity with data security practices, including encryption and access control.
  • Knowledge of disaster recovery planning and business continuity procedures.
  • Must have excellent customer service skills; will work closely with users.
Work Environment:
  • Fast paced environment within customer setting. Travel between County buildings is common and expected.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate as the employee works in an office setting, at an individual work station, using telephone and computer.
Physical Demands:
  • Must be able to be on the go for most of the day, a very active position.
  • Might require heavy lifting.
  • Will require after hours support.
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position for most of the day.
  • Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a printer/copy machine.
  • This position needs to occasionally move about inside the office.
  • The person in this position frequently communicates via telephone.
