The Controls Engineer is responsible for the design, specification, development, integration, and commissioning of Ignition and SCDA systems for New Millennium equipment and automation projects. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in engineering and control systems, and a proven track record of successfully implementing, modifying and maintaining Ignition solutions. They will also demonstrate proficiency in problem-solving, troubleshooting, de-bugging, and will work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure the seamless integration of Ignition systems into our projects.
Responsibilities:Design and deploy Ignition SCADA systems tailored to meet project requirements
Create user interface screens in both Perspective and Vision
Initiate and support multiple projects and implementations of varying sizes and degrees of complexity
Execute complex SCADA systems integration projects with vendors and NM facilities
Configure alarming in Ignition
Tag creation in the Designer (Connected Devices window, Tag Browser)
Connect to various data sources and/or equipment
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand project specifications and incorporate Ignition solutions into overall system architecture
Write, test, and debug ignition code to ensure optimal system performance
Ensure that projects are planned and executed in a timely and efficient manner and routinely report progress
Implement and integrate Ignition systems into larger control systems
Simulate, test, and troubleshoot issues with SCADA systems and programs, document, and report findings
Communicate technical concepts and solutions effectively to both technical and non-technical team members
Prepare specifications and requirements in accordance with NM Control Standards
Provide technical guidance during build, testing, and commissioning of new or modified machines and systems
Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for Ignition system designs, implementations, and troubleshooting procedures
Qualifications:Required:
Minimum of three (3) years of experience
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Automation, or a related field
Proven experience in designing and developing HMI, MES, and SCADA systems built around the Ignition platform
Ability to create systems designs and documentation in addition to maintaining systems developed by others
Experience in implementing network architecture for an Ignition SCADA system
Proficiency in programming languages relevant to ignition systems (e.g., Python, Java)
Strong analytical skills and ability to solve problems and communicate effectively with little guidance
Proficient computer skills in Word and Excel, and CAD
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Works well in team environment
Preferred:
Ignition Core and/or Gold Certification
Mechanically inclined, hands-on individual
Experience with Allen-Bradley and Fanuc systems
Steel and fabrication industry experience that includes welding, forming, cutting, and rolling technologies
