DEPARTMENT: AFF PHYSICIANS FOR WOMENFACILITY: Tifton Physicians for WomenWORK TYPE: Full Time SHIFT: DaytimeSUMMARY: The Certified Medical Assistant or Registered Medical Assistant has the duties and responsibilities related to patient care in the ambulatory clinic environment. The individual displays responsible behaviors, communicates effectively to others and functions as a member of the healthcare team. The CMA or RMA functions under the direct supervision and authority of the physician or Advanced Practice Provider when performing clinical tasks during patient care. The CMA/RMA must demonstrate competency in all skills related to performance of patient care. The CMA or RMA maintains inventory of examination/procedure room supplies, assists in the organization of efficient patient flow, and organizes the clinical environment to assure patient safety. The CMA/RMA demonstrates problem-solving skills as they relate to patient care activities.RESPONSIBILITIES:* The supervising physician may delegate subcutaneous and intramuscular injections; obtaining vital signs, administering nebulizer treatments and/or administering limited oral medications (PO) per policy, removing sutures and changing dressings.* Responsible for the paperwork involved with the transcription of orders, registering patients, receives supervision from Physician, Practice Manager, Advanced Practice Provider (APP) and Clinical Staff.* Performs Point of Care testing* Effectively prepare rooms* Schedule diagnostics tests and screenings order by provider (physician or APP)* Coordinates scheduling, needed follow ups and referrals for patients* Demonstrates the ability to handle confidential information with discretion for the patient, family and/or co-workers.* Assist with ordering medical supplies as requested* Communicates clearly and appropriately with physician, APP and Clinical Leader* Demonstrates the ability to be flexible and organized as well as function under stressful conditions* Follow policies related in Informed consent, confidentiality, patient rights, and access to medical records and advance directive information.* Be accountable for the paperwork duties of the department; be responsible for public relations the department; responsible for welcoming patients, visitors, and other health care personnel and customers to the unit and directing people to other areas of the clinic. * Practice Standard Precautions for Infection Control and adhere to all safety policies and procedures. * Attend mandatory in-services as directed by policies. * Maintain helpful, caring attitude and be courteous and cheerful when relating to all other associate and customers.* Adhere to the TRHS Compliance Program, Code of Conduct and TRHS policies and procedures* Other duties may be assigned* Keeps abreast of pertinent federal, and state regulations and laws and Tift Regional Health System, Inc. ( TRHS ) policies as they presently exist and as they change or are modified.* Understands and adheres to: TRHS' compliance standards as they appear in TRHS's Corporate Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest Policy; and HIPAA and TRHS policies regarding privacy and security of protected health information.* Demonstrates the ability to perform tasks that meet the age-specific requirements of the persons, patients, vendors, and staff that the employee is charged to interact with as required by the position.* Offers suggestions on ways to improve operations of department and reduce costs. * Attends all mandatory education programs.* Improves self-knowledge through voluntarily attending continuing education/certification classes.* Maintains required competency levels as identified in written exams, skills checklists, skills labs, annual safety and health requirements as well as service excellence education hours requirements.* Cross-trains in order to better assist co-workers and to provide maximum efficiency in the department.* Volunteers/participates on hospital committees, functions, and department projects.* Manages resources effectively.* Reports equipment in need of repair in order to extend life of equipment and removes malfunctioning equipment out of service with timely reporting to the appropriate personnel.* Makes good use of time so as to not create needless overtime.EDUCATION:* High School Diploma or EquivalentCREDENTIALS: * Certified Medical Assistant* American Allied HealthOTHER INFORMATION:Certified Medical Assistant certification or Registered Medial Assistant is required. Must be able to perform CPR; must have the ability to handle and operate equipment required and complete department forms correctly. Physicians or physician assistants under basic job description and/or advanced practice nurses under protocol must be on-site for a Certified or registered medical assistant to administer subcutaneous and intramuscular injections, administer oral medications (PO), with limitations detailed in the CMA/RMA Policy, obtain vital signs, to administer nebulizer treatments, and to remove sutures and change dressings.
