Technology Services Database Administrator The University's Technology Services department is looking for a Database Administrator to join our team. The Database Administrator is responsible for ensuring that our databases and supporting systems are maintained, optimized, and secured. As part of the team, you will participate in the planning, implementation, development, and maintenance of information systems while providing support services to the University. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Actively participates in all phases of the database development cycle includes testing, development of programs, and systems documentation according to departmental objectives and requirements.
  • Participate in database server architecture and design as well as server environment recommendations for the overall infrastructure solutions including storage capacity planning.
  • Manage and maintain multiple Microsoft SQL Server databases in a production environment.
  • Manage database related application installation, configuration, and maintenance.
  • Responsible for database alerts, maintenance plans, and scripts.
  • Manage database security and control access and permissions to databases and related systems.
  • Resolve database and related system problems.
Skills and Abilities
  • Proficient in Microsoft SQL Server.
    • Professional level of SQL development - creating/modifying scripts, stored procedures, functions, triggers, views, table structures, and indexes.
    • Working experience in performance tuning - indexes, queries, and stored procedures.
    • Working knowledge of SSRS.
    • Working knowledge of creating, managing, and scheduling SQL Server Agent jobs.
    • Working knowledge of SQL backup and recovery methods and tools.
  • Some experience or familiarity with PowerShell and/or batch scripting in a Windows environment.
  • Strong analytical skills, problem-solving skills, and the ability to perform in pressure situations.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple concurrent priorities and meet deadlines within a dynamic, fast paced, and challenging environment.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records in accordance with departmental policy.
  • Ability to incorporate problem-solving principles into troubleshooting techniques. Must discern when to function independently and when to contribute as a team member.
  • Accurate mathematical skills are essential with knowledge of basic Algebra.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to express ideas concisely and clearly to both technical and non-technical clients.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies.
  • Must be willing and able to assist in IT help desk support as a backup to other members of the department.
  • Must be able to lift and transport various technical components and assist with cable installations. Occasional ladder work may be required.
  • Shall be on call 24/7; responding to urgent support needs as determined by the Director of Technology Services.
Required Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or in a related field or commensurate experience.
  • One to three years of experience in computer technology, including hardware, software, and network administration.
