This role requires experience in database administration, including system optimization, backup and recovery, performance tuning, and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams. You will play a crucial part in ensuring the reliability, security, and scalability of our databases to support the Agency's operations effectively. A Day in the Life as a SQL Database Administrator As a SQL Database Administrator, you will oversee the health, performance, and security of our database systems. You'll design and maintain efficient database solutions, implement backup and recovery plans, and proactively monitor system performance to meet the growing needs of the organization. Your work will directly impact the employees and clients who rely on our systems to deliver high-quality services. You will be responsible for defining best practices for database management-building processes, ensuring data integrity, and optimizing system performance. As the organization evolves, you'll take a leadership role in implementing new database technologies and mentoring team members to promote a culture of data excellence. Key Responsibilities: • Design, implement, and maintain database systems to ensure data integrity, security, and high availability. • Collaborate on backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies for critical systems. • Optimize database performance by analyzing system metrics, resolving bottlenecks, and tuning queries. • Collaborate with the development team to design and review efficient database schemas, stored procedures, and support application requirements. • Monitor database environments to proactively identify and address issues, ensuring minimal downtime. • Implement robust security measures, including role-based access control and encryption, to protect sensitive data. • Create and maintain documentation for database architecture, processes, and configurations. • Mentor and guide junior staff, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement. Requirements • A bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field. • 2+ years of experience as a SQL Database Administrator, with expertise in database design, performance tuning, and system maintenance. • Proficiency in SQL Server or similar database platforms (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL). • Strong understanding of database security practices, including user permissions and data encryption. • Familiarity with monitoring and performance tools (e.g., SQL Profiler, SolarWinds, or similar). • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
