Work involves responsibility for planning and developing the annual educational curriculum, supervising subordinate staff conducting classes, planning meals and supervising the food service activities in a day care center. Work also involves supervising staff involved in curriculum planning activities, education, selecting and preparing material to be used in the classrooms. Completes progress reports on each child and discusses problems and progress with parents. Work is performed under the general supervision of a Day Care Administrator and is reviewed through conferences and reports for conformance to policies and procedures and the results obtained. Essential Functions Supervises the activities of all day care center employees. Observes, supervises, evaluates and participates in teaching and in developing teaching methods and techniques for preschool children. Approves the daily lesson plans prepared by subordinate staff. Counsels staff and recommends possible solutions for problems arising as a result of individual adjustment problems. Completes progress reports and discusses individual child's progress with parents. Supervises the custodial activities of the day care center. Supervises and evaluates the quality of education being provided and implements changes for achieving higher standards. Performs other related work as required. Minimum RequirementsA minimum of 60 college credits or its equivalent and four (4) years of experience working in an early childhood care program or child-care facility, and two (2) years of supervisory experience in a child care facilityPossession of a valid Florida Department of Children and Families Director Credential, the Florida Department of Children and Families 40 -hour Introductory Child Care Training Emergent Literacy for VPK Instructor, and Safe Sleep /Shaken Baby Syndrome certificate, First Aid & Pediatric Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) training. All required certifications must be maintained valid throughout employment. OR Equivalent combination of education and experience beyond a high school diploma or its equivalent and two (2) years of the required experience.SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: The Fire Extinguisher Training must be possessed after 30 days of employment. The Florida Department of Children and Families 10 hours or 1.0 Continued Education Unit (CEU) of in-service training must be completed on a yearly basis during the state's fiscal year beginning July 1 and ending June 30.
