The Position:

San Diego Miramar College invites qualified candidates to apply for the position of Instructional Dean overseeing the School of Academic Services. The college is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) and seeks candidates motivated by serving students in a college community.

Under the direction of the Vice President of Instruction, the Dean of Academic Services is responsible for planning, organizing, directing, evaluating, and advocating for all academic and student success programs.

Example of Duties:

  • Plan, organize, coordinate, manage, and evaluate an assigned instructional or instructional support program.
  • Establish overall objectives and plans; assess needs for new programs/services.
  • Direct the evaluation of facilities and equipment and recommend improvements.
  • Communicate and interpret program objectives and offerings.
  • Screen, interview, select, assign, supervise, and evaluate faculty and staff.
  • Prepare staff assignments and schedules.
  • Develop annual budget recommendations.
  • Serve as a member of district, site, or other committees.
  • Represent the District at local, State, and national levels.
  • Coordinate and direct special projects as assigned.
  • Prepare reports and make presentations.
  • Coordinate and facilitate the resolution of conflicts and complaints.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
  • Qualifications:

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Possession of a Master's degree from a regionally accredited institution AND one (1) year of formal training, internship, or leadership experience; OR
    • Possession of a lifetime California Community College Supervisor Credential AND two (2) years of recent management experience in higher education.

    Desired Qualifications:

    • Experience in providing administrative oversight for student equity and academic success programs.
    • Knowledge of instructional and student support programs grounded in the Guided Pathways framework.
    • Ability to build collaborative working relationships across divisions.
    • Experience in research design/methodology relating to college-wide functions.
    • Ability to develop and integrate student services and instructional services.
    • Knowledge of current state initiatives focused on student equity and academic success.
    • Experience in student learning outcomes and accreditation processes.
    • Ability to manage complex collegewide programs.
    • Ability to analyze data and recommend improvements.
    • Demonstrated cultural competency and sensitivity to diverse backgrounds.
