Description A nationally recognized and highly regarded non-profit organization in New York City (Long Island City) seeks a Dean of Academic Success. The organization is a 40-year-old, legal education and college preparatory non-profit that prepares underserved youth for higher education and professional careers through law-related, academic skill development and support programs that operate year-round. This is a hybrid role with the office located in Long Island City. Salary is $65,000-$70,000, depending upon experience. Excellent benefits package. Primary Duties: The Dean of Academic Success will coordinate support for our students across programs, organize student engagement opportunities, and work alongside other staff and parents/caregivers to ensure the well-being and academic success of the students in their College Bound Program. The Dean of Academic Success will oversee the advisory program for our students in freshman, sophomore and junior year to ensure that students are held accountable while being provided with the necessary resources for their academic endeavors. The selected individual will also coordinate student engagement activities to ensure a strong supportive community is built in conjunction with our student communications council. Additional duties include:
  • Provide oversight of individual and group advising program of freshman and sophomore students
  • Collect, input and analyze student high school report cards with academic team
  • Recruit/hire academic tutors and provide oversight of tutoring program
  • Help families navigate high school transfers and help determine what additional supports students need from school or otherwise
  • Run monthly meetings with staff to address the academic progress of students and complete adequate follow-up, including scheduling individual student and parent meetings when necessary
  • Oversee and implement student community building activities
  • Facilitate student Honor Council and Communications Council
  • Oversee Summer Philosophy and Study Skills Program
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree or higher
  • 3 years of experience working with middle or high school-aged youth in an educational setting required.
  • Experience developing lesson plans for academic workshops.
  • Experience determining fair consequences for student misconduct or academic integrity complaints.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and can work well with staff, students, parents/caregivers, and community members.
  • Strong work ethic, be highly organized, and detail oriented
