About the job Dean of Students, Bronx Global Learning Institute for Girls Charter School ROLE: DEAN OF STUDENTSREPORTS TO: SCHOOL PRINCIPALSERVING GRADES: K 8MISSION: Bronx Global Learning Institute for Girls Charter School, The Shirley Rodriguez-Remeneski School (BGLIG, pronounced Big League) will provide an exceptional education to young girls through dual language instruction in a technology-rich environment, while building on cultural heritage to foster leadership characteristics and strong values, promote self-confidence and create global leaders. Through highly motivated and accomplished teachers, our students will receive a standards-based, research-proven, technology-infused curriculum focusing on core subjects that will create a strong foundation for life-long learning.Our intellectually challenging curriculum, enriched by a cultural perspective, a focus on successful women leaders, and a dual language program, will promote excellence in all areas: cognitive, social, emotional, and moral. A single-sex environment coupled with a rigorous instructional program ensures that each student is able to disengage from traditional social pressures and focus on personal development and academic achievement.Position OverviewAt Bronx Global Learning Institute for Girls Charter School, the Dean of Students understands and promotes the school's mission, vision, objectives, and policies both within and outside the immediate school community. The Dean of Students will be responsible for ensuring that BGLIG maintains a safe and joyful environment where learning takes center stage. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE (BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO):School-Wide Leadership
  • Set and take responsibility for school culture and behavior goals
  • Work with the leadership team to plan and facilitate high quality training for staff
  • Plan and lead school-wide culture routines and events and ensure that scholars are developing as service-minded leaders
Core Responsibilities
  • Train teachers school-wide on effective behavior management and culture-building practices
  • Oversee school-wide systems
  • Coordinate any discipline issues that go beyond the classroom
  • Lead family engagement efforts and conduct parent conferences as needed
  • Track and analyze non-academic student data
  • Work with outside agencies and community partners to connect our scholars with the additional non-academic resources they need
  • Work as a member of the School Leadership Team to solve pressing tactical and strategic issues
Student Support & School Culture
  • Communicate effectively and maintain strong relationships with students, families, colleagues, administrators, and with BGLIG families
  • Oversee and assist with student arrival / dismissal.
  • Work closely with all members of the school community, model citizenship, collaboration and support of one another.
JOB REQUIREMENTSQualifications
  • Alignment to BGLIG's core values and mission.
  • Bachelors Degree required, Masters Degree in the field of education preferred.
  • NYS teaching certification required.
  • Leadership experience in a high-performing charter or district school
  • Strong classroom management skills.
  • Strong knowledge of Common Core.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to establish and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships with a diverse staff.
  • Intermediate to advanced Spanish language skills preferred.
  • Proficient in use of technology, including various G Suite teaching tools.
SALARY AND BENEFITSThe salary range for this position is $70,000 - $90,000.
