Overview Withers is placing an increased focus on business responsibility across our global firm, both internally for our people and externally for our clients. Internally, we have a business responsibility framework that includes the following areas: communication and involvement; diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI); the environment; giving back, pro bono and wellbeing. Externally, we are focusing on our environmental, social and governance (ESG) credentials and how we can work with our clients to make the world a better place. Our business responsibility framework is led by our chairperson and each of the six groups have a global partner lead and committee in place. We're seeking someone who can help us to achieve our objectives specifically in relation to DEI and engagement which falls under the communication and involvement area. This is an exciting new role for the firm, and you would have the scope to make it your own and truly make a difference. We also have a Business Sustainability Coordinator (based in London) who coordinates activity across the business responsibility framework. You would work closely with each other, as well as a wider group of people who work on business responsibility across the firm, including our HR, marketing and communications teams. The role will sit within the global HR team. While this role is based in the US, it is a global role, working with colleagues across our 17 offices in Asia, Europe and the US. The annual base compensation range for this role is $65,000 to $80,000. Essential duties and responsibilitiesProvide DEI support
  • Support the DEI subcommittee of the partnership board and the DEI group of the responsibility framework by helping to coordinate meetings/papers/actions etc.
  • Support DEI initiatives including policies, training, education, resources, communication etc.
  • Support DEI reporting and actions
  • Coordinate our various DEI networks e.g. LGBTQ+, neurodiversity and religious groups
  • Assist with DEI campaigns, communications and content on the intranet and website
  • Work with partner organizations on DEI initiatives
  • Support the application and maintenance of the Mansfield Rule
Provide engagement support
  • Lead the firm's global feedback forums including coordinating meetings, maintaining the global feedback action tracker and ensuring actions are followed through
  • Work with HR and the communications team to develop and implement an engagement strategy for the firm
  • Coordinate engagement surveys and systems, ensuring actions are tracked and implemented, working with external suppliers as required
  • Help to run internal social events, initiatives and campaigns
  • Support the execution of an alumni strategy for the firm (long-term goal, working with the marketing team)
Skills and attributes
  • Professional experience in the areas of DEI and engagement
  • A global mindset and understanding of local cultures and sensitivities
  • Proven experience of working in a fast-paced environment and maintaining a varied workload, ideally within an international organization
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills and proficient in MS Excel, including being able to manipulate and analyze data sets
  • Ability to prioritize competing demands
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to build relationships with people at all levels of the business
The essentials
  • Bachelor's Degree required
  • A minimum of three years of relevant experience
  • The standard hours are 8.30am to 5.00pm, but flexibility is a must
