General Purpose:The Deli Associate provides customer-friendly service to our valuable customers and provides the quality products that Adams is known for. This means fulfilling customer requests, filling and rotating the cases, keeping the department clean, and being the final line for quality control in the department. FLSA Status: Non-exempt Reports To: Deli Manager, Deli Assistant Manager, Deli Supervisor, Deli Shift Leader Job Description:
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Ensure that customers receive the best customer service by providing friendly, polite, and knowledgeable service
  • Greet customers personally and thank them appreciatively for shopping at Adams
  • Safely slice meats and cheeses to customer's specifications
  • Be aware of incoming text orders and ensure all orders are sliced within 20 minutes
  • Be aware of sale items and pricing
  • Maintain full knowledge of Deli product line and pricing
  • Rotate products to keep older product in front and stock cases, making sure each package is correctly labeled and there are no empty spaces
  • Keep cases stocked with daily food items
  • Check the fresh slice case and pull product that is out of date/ time
  • Keep salads stocked according to freshness guidelines
  • Be the final line for quality control: look for packaging issues, sell-by dates and times, and be vigilant about quality and presentation of all products put into the case
  • If assigned, cut meat and cheese for fresh slice program
  • If assigned, make pack out and artisan sandwiches
  • If assigned, set up salad case
  • If assigned, receive deliveries; check delivery ticket against what was ordered and product received
  • If assigned, take catering orders in person and on the phone
  • Clean deli slicers, dishes, and all other department equipment
  • Keep all areas of the department clean and organized, including sales floor, counters, cases, coolers, preparation and production areas
  • When a customer needs assistance, give the customer priority over task at hand
Physical Requirements:
  • Consistently lift and move 25 pounds
  • Stand for the duration of the shift
  • Use hands, wrists fingers and arms for duration of shift
  • Climb up and down a step-stool, stepladder, and ladder
  • Safely operate deli slicers and other equipment necessary to run the department
  • Use the compactor and cardboard crusher for disposing of garbage and recycling
Mental/Reasoning Requirements:
  • Communicate clearly with customers and co-workers
  • Employees are our internal customers; treat them with the same courtesy and respect as our external customers
  • Must work efficiently and at a productive pace per department needs
  • Must be able to work scheduled shift
  • Follow all department safety policies and procedures
  • Be able to concentrate on tasks in order to avoid injury and waste of product
  • Be knowledgeable about Adams product - recommend ideas to customers by exploring customer preferences and advocating Adams product
