Job purpose
Supports dental care delivery by preparing treatment room, assisting with patient needs, and sterilization of instruments to ensure the smooth operation of the dental office and contribute to the overall efficiency of patient care. This role assists and performs basic supportive dental procedures under direct supervision. Additionally, the role may include administrative duties,
Duties and responsibilities
* Assist chairside with procedures.
* Escort Patients to treatment room and review patient health history
* Take x-rays.
* Educate patients by giving oral hygiene, plaque control, and post exam instructions.
* Document dental care services by charting in patient records.
* Prepare treatment room for patient by following prescribed procedures and protocols.
* Disinfect and sterilize instruments and equipment.
* Set-up and break down operatories.
* Clinical tray set up.
* Maintain inventory of dental supplies.
* Work as part of an integrated care team.
* Use common software, including medical database and scheduling software.
* Follow all guidelines, regulations, and standards.
* Complete other duties and related projects as assigned.
Qualifications
* Ability to perform the duties described above.
* Minimum one year experience as a Dental Assistant
* Completion of a California Board-approved 2-hour course in the California Dental Practice Act
* A California Board-approved 8-hour course in infection control
* Completion of a board-approved radiation safety course.
* Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
* Knowledge of EPIC electronic Health Records System, desired.
* Knowledge of Microsoft Office software
* Verbal and written fluency in English required; Bilingual skills in a second language (particularly in Spanish) desired but not required.
* Ability to communicate well with people of diverse cultural professional and experiential backgrounds
* Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
Working conditions
Work is primarily conducted in a standard Dental office environment. Utilizes language interpretation services as needed. Exposure to all patient elements, including communicable disease and blood borne pathogens.
