Escambia County FLORIDA Dental Assistant - Corrections Department Base Pay: $13.38 - $16.73/hr ** Date: April 30, 2024** This is technical level work assisting with dental procedures and maintaining the dental equipment used to treat patients housed at a correctional facility. Assists the dentist in rendering treatment at the chair side as required of four handed dentistry. The employee will work under the direction of the Escambia County Operations Coordinator. This is a mandatory testing position that requires Drug Testing. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: Prepares trays with necessary instruments and supplies and handing those to the dentist as needed and prepares various restorative materials Prepares X-rays, sterilizes instruments, and cleans dental equipment according to established guidelines, etc. Prepares patient, sterilizes and disinfects instruments, sets up instrument trays, prepares materials, and assists dentist during dental procedures Assists dentist in management of medical and dental emergencies Records inmate medical and dental history, vital signs of patient, and treatment information in patient records Provides postoperative instructions prescribed by dentist Instructs patients in oral hygiene and plaque control programs Schedules appointments, prepares bills and receives payment for dental services, completes insurance forms, and maintains records, manually or using computer Maintain supply inventory and order supplies as needed Performs other duties as assigned TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum Qualification Requirements: Training and Experience: High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) and two years of work experience performing duties of a dental assistant; or a combination of education and experience equivalent to these requirements. Licenses and Certifications: Must possess a Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification at the time of employment Must be able to obtain security clearance Preferred Qualifications: Certified Dental Assistant Correctional experience Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics (KSAOs): federal, state, correctional health care standards, institutional policies and regulations and accreditation and certification requirements recordkeeping practices medical terminology clinical operations and procedures all facets of patient care, infection control, safety, quality assurance, and institutional practices performing basic and advanced life support procedures written, verbal, and interpersonal communication remain calm in stressful and emotional situations prepare and process laboratory samples using established protocols work effectively with a diverse community use computer software to input and monitor dental/medical charts SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION: County-wide Employee Responsibilities: All Escambia County BCC employees must serve the public and fellow employees with honesty and integrity in full accord with the letter and spirit of Escambia County BCC's Employee Code of Ethics, gift, and conflict of interest policies. Physical Requirements: Positions in this class typically require climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, finger and hand dexterity, as well as repetitive motions. Very Heavy Work: Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, blood and other bodily fluids, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions, intense noises and travel.
