To assist in meeting the goals, objectives and mission of the organization by assisting the Dentist in the direct care of patientsPrincipal Accountabilities:1. To act as chair side assistant to the dentist, preparing necessary materials and equipment for various dental procedures2. To assist the dentist by listening and responding to request for materials and equipment during various dental procedures3. Takes x-rays4. To participate in in-service workshops, and quality assurance activities as may be required by the department5. To work closely with the dentist and dental staff in improving productivity and efficiency6. Take preliminary medical histories and vital signs to be reviewed by the dentist7. Place and remove rubber dams8. Take impressions for study casts or diagnostic casts9. Take impressions for space maintainers, orthodontic appliances and occlusal guards10. Remove temporary cement (not including temporary fillings)11. Apply topical anticariogenic agents to the teeth12. Apply desensitizing agents to the teeth13. Place and remove temporary separating devices14. Other duties and responsibilities as requested by the supervisorRequirementsKnowledge/Education Requirements:Graduate from an ADA accredited dental assisting and CPR certification, orHigh school graduate (or equivalent) and minimum of two full years work experience as a Dental AssistantMaintain certification including meeting all necessary continuing education requirementsDemonstrate proper judgment and decision-making skills when necessaryComply with the organizations code of conduct, safety rules and adheres to all company policiesCarry out job responsibilities in an ethical, effective and professional mannerMust be willing and demonstrate the ability to cooperate, work, and communicate with coworkers and supervisorsMust demonstrate computer proficiency with Microsoft Suite and electronic medical record system Must possess a willingness to accept direction from providers and supervisors; must possess the ability to work well and with compassion in stressful situations; must maintain a professional and courteous demeanor with both patients and co-workers Must be keenly aware of the importance of confidentiality in all aspects of the position
