POSITION SUMMARY: Tahoma Global Logistics (TGL) is seeking qualified candidates for our Depot Gate Clerk position at our port facility located in Tacoma. Our Gate Clerks direct and process traffic through our 'in' and 'out' gates for cargo, containers, trucks, trailers, and chassis. They provide vital support to their team, ensuring the safe and efficient handling and flow of freight throughout our property. In addition, Gate Clerks assist and support our other TGL departments, as well as assisting and monitoring our customers and vendors. TGL is a people-oriented company and has a merit-based culture. - Excellent attendance for all scheduled shifts
- Greet drivers upon arrival, verify necessary documentation, input data into the depot's management system (ECTS) for real-time tracking and reporting of container/chassis movements
- Maintain accurate systematic and paper records of all incoming and outgoing containers, including dates, container/chassis numbers and details, truck details, and any special handling instructions; verify that all required paperwork is complete and accurate before lifting or placing containers/chassis
- Inspect containers for any damage or discrepancies and report findings to the appropriate team members
- Coordinate with yard and office staff, drivers, and management to ensure efficient container/chassis storage, handling, and transport; provide assistance to drivers to address any concerns or questions
- Work with drivers, the office, and dispatch to address and resolve issues related to container discrepancies, paperwork errors, or concerns surrounding an acceptance or release
- Operate various equipment as needed, serving as a backup or to fill in during the absence of the primary equipment operator(s)
- Identify opportunities for improvements, identify potential areas of risk, and promptly share critical business information with key stakeholders to maximize results throughout TGL
- Coordinate effective teamwork and use all company resources efficiently to promote superior financial results for TGL; maintain TGL equipment and assets to maximize return on investment
- Establish and maintain effective business relationships with all employees, vendors, business partners, government/regulatory entities, and communities in which we operate
- Strictly enforce workplace safety measures; safeguard the welfare of all employees, guests, visitors, and business partners at all times; promptly report workplace risks, incidents, injuries, and near misses; consistently wear and utilize all required PPE
- Maintain confidentiality regarding all sensitive and proprietary business information and safeguard TGL assets at all times
REQUIREMENTS:Minimum
- 18 years or older
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid WA driver's license and good driving record
- Knowledge of container, chassis, and cargo handling processes and safety/security protocols
- Ability to record, analyze, reconcile, and interpret business data; and enter data into business computer systems
- Ability to problem solve, effectively multi-task, and manage competing priorities to meet deadlines
- Excellent troubleshooting skills, high attention to detail, and accuracy in executing tasks
- Excellent time management skills and ability to work independently and effectively with minimal supervision
- Works well in a highly team-focused environment, with good written and verbal communication skills in English
- PC and MS Office proficiency
- Good interpersonal skills; able to maintain a positive work attitude and demeanor
- Culturally sensitive and works well with the full diversity of our company and community
- Ability to transport self over multi acre work site of varied terrain and climb in/out of equipment
- Ability to work non-standard hours to accommodate business needs, including nights, weekends, and holidays
- Ability to pass background check
Preferred
- TWIC and/or any industry related education, training or certifications
- Work experience in similar industry or performing substantially similar work tasks
- Experience operating side pick, top pick, or top loader equipment in a depot or similar work setting
- Knowledge of IICL-6 standards for steel containers
