POSITION GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Ada County Court Assistance Office (CAO) assists self-represented litigants in family law and other civil cases in Ada County in accordance with Idaho Court Administrative Rule 53. The CAO does not offer legal advice or provide legal representation. The CAO provides Court Assistance forms and instructions, referrals, educational materials, and legal information. Work is performed under well established guidelines set forth by Idaho Code and requires a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:
A Deputy Court Clerk in the Court Assistance Office generally performs key clerical functions that are sometimes recurring in nature and can be narrow in scope. The work requires broad working knowledge of the court system in order to perform these more complex functions of the job. A Deputy Court Clerk in the Court Assistance Office must have knowledge of civil procedures, court documents and terminology with the ability to communicate that information to a self-represented litigant.
Essential Functions
* Assists self-represented individuals with Court Assistance forms;
* Provides educational materials, legal information, forms, and instructions;
* Provides referrals to appropriate agencies and organizations;
* Operates office equipment;
* Creates form letters, reports, and similar materials;
* Reviews Court Assistance forms presented for compliance to standards and completeness;
* Responds to a high volume of emails, phone calls, and in person requests for services and information;
* Maintains high level of confidentiality and impartiality;
* Processes sensitive material.
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS:
* Performs related functions as required.
Job Requirements
* Must have a high school diploma or equivalent;
* Knowledge of legal procedures documents and terminology;
* Bilingual skills are highly preferred;
* Skill in the operation of computers;
* Ability to exercise a significant amount of independent judgement;
* Ability to problem solve;
* Ability to understand and follow verbal and written directions;
* Ability to communicate verbally and in writing;
* Ability to establish and build rapport with a wide range of individuals;
* Ability to maintain confidentiality;
* Ability to maintain harmonious working relationships with other employees and the public.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
* For bilingual skill preference: In order to qualify as a bilingual employee, incumbent must demonstrate fluency in writing and speaking by passing a proficiency language test prior to employment.
Work Environment & Physical Demands
* May be required to lift or move up to 25 pounds;
* Work is performed primarily in an office environment and the employee in this class is subject to inside environmental conditions;
* Must be able to speak, listen, and stand for long periods of time;
* Requires sufficient personal mobility and physical reflexes, to permit the employee to function in a general office environment and accomplish tasks.
