Why does the job exist?The Deputy Director - Administrative Law Judge will:
- Provide supervision to Administrative Law Judges, located in Albuquerque and Santa Fe, ensuring due process and compliance with the administrative hearing process;
- Conduct administrative hearings on all appeals within the jurisdiction of the Office of Fair Hearings (OFH) and;
- Work closely with the Office of Fair Hearings Director and Management Analyst Supervisor on identification of budgetary, training, technological and other needs for enhanced operational efficiency and effectiveness.
How does it get done?The Deputy Director - Administrative Law Judge is responsible for:
- Ensuring due process rights of each party are safeguarded on all hearings and that all Administrative Law Judges are compliant with federal, state, and agency policies and directives;
- Reviewing Recommendations and Final Decisions for timeliness and policy compliance and;
- Participating in external audits and developing performance measures to evaluate and identify needs and strengths within the Office of Fair Hearings.

Ideal CandidateThe ideal candidate has:
- A Juris Doctorate or Master's Degree;
- Experience conducting administrative hearings and supervising Administrative Law Judges;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
- Extensive knowledge of the rules and regulations governing the hearing process and the programs within the jurisdiction of the Office of Fair Hearings.
Minimum QualificationA Bachelor's Degree in any field of study from an accredited college or university and eight (8) years of professional level experience with a light strategic impact directly related to the purpose of the position defined by the agency at the time of recruitment.
