Major Responsibilities
* Under the Borough Forestry Director, help manage all aspects of Parks' urban forestry program throughout the borough.
* Assist Director in deployment of supervisors, climbers and pruners, foresters and other field and administrative staff as required.
* Be on-call for immediate assessment and management of storm-related emergencies. Lead borough storm emergency response efforts to safeguard human health and property in the absence of the Director. Clear streets and sidewalks of tree debris and mobilize additional non-forestry crews and equipment as needed. Supervise storm emergency contractors if such contracts are activated.
* Perform staff development and training regarding forestry data management system, tree maintenance, hazard and storm damage assessment, pests and diseases of trees and forestry equipment operation.
* Represent the Agency at planning and construction meetings within Parks and with other agencies and private sector construction projects. Articulate and enforce Parks' tree protection policies.
* Assist Director in management of street and park tree maintenance programs, including pruning contracts, tree and stump remove all contracts, emergency contracts, tree inspection and disease work, work prioritization and production to accomplish Agency goals.
* Prepare briefings, reports, evaluations, budgets and correspondence related to Parks' borough forestry program. Provide regular updates on the status of various projects and programs, and ensure that projects are advanced in a timely manner.
* Working with the Director and subordinate staff, ensure that all forestry work performed in the borough is accurately entered into the Parks Forestry Management System (ForMS) so that the database reflects the work being performed in that borough.

Minimum Qualifications
1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college with major study in horticulture, arboriculture, or landscape architecture and four years of full-time, paid experience in horticultural work of which two (2) years must have been in a supervisory, administrative, consultative, managerial, or executive capacity; or
2. A satisfactory equivalent. However, all candidates must have at least a high school diploma or evidence of having passed an examination for a high school equivalency diploma and one year of supervisory, administrative, consultative, managerial, or executive experience as described above.
Preferred Skills
1. A master's degree from an accredited university with specialization in Forestry or a related subject. 2. Certification as an Arborist from the International Society of Arboriculture. 3. Strong knowledge of Agency structure and divisions and/or government operations. 4. Excellent writing, supervisory, administrative and interpersonal skills. 5. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and ForMS. 6. Valid New York State driver license.
