Minimum Qualifications •Candidates must be admitted to practice and in good standing with the bar of the State of New York, with a minimum of 10 years of legal experience, preferably in an investigative or oversight context. Candidates with prior experience serving as an Inspector General or as part of another government investigatory or oversight agency are particularly encouraged to apply. •At least 5 years of supervisory experience, ideally involving employees from a variety of disciplines, and including involvement in the handling of personnel issues. Adeptness at editing and providing both informal and formal feedback is essential.•A work-related familiarity with New York State government, its agencies, and laws is highly preferred, though not required.•Excellent oral and written communication skills, including an ability to analyze complex matters and communicate them simply and accurately, and an aptitude for facilitating efficient communication and execution by multi-disciplinary teams. •The ideal candidate must be highly organized, an adept multitasker, have a collegial attitude, and possess prior experience managing and conducting confidential, sensitive, and internal investigations, particularly in the areas of contracts, procurements, white-collar crime, welfare fraud, workers' compensation fraud, and/or gaming matters. •Sound judgment, strict adherence to confidentiality, and dedication to the mission of the New York State Inspector General is vital.•An ability and willingness to travel for case-related purposes, as well as to work unscheduled hours if necessary. •New York State residency is required.To Apply:This is a Management Confidential position appointed by the Inspector General and approved at a Grade M-6 equivalent, within which OIG seeks to hire at a salary range between $152,191 and $160,500, commensurate with experience. Interviews and hiring will be done on a rolling basis and this posting is subject to removal at any time once the position has been filled.Please email resume and cover letter, with the email subject line Job ID #24-0147 DIG - Upstate Region to:[email protected] Description The Offices of the Inspector General ( OIG ) are comprised of three offices, derived from the three appointments held by Inspector General Lucy Lang: •The Office of the New York State Inspector General ( NYSIG ), as established by Executive Law Article 4-A, is entrusted with the responsibility of receiving and investigating complaints of fraud, corruption, criminal activity, conflicts of interest, and abuse in executive branch agencies of New York State government. Since June 2021, this includes complaints related to the New York State Gaming Commission.•The Office of the New York State Welfare Inspector General ( OWIG ), as established by section 74 of the Executive Law, is responsible for maintaining the integrity of New York State's public assistance programs; and •The Office of the New York State Workers' Compensation Fraud Inspector General ( WCFIG ), as established by section 136 of the Workers' Compensation Law, is responsible for investigating violations of the laws and regulations pertaining to the operation of the workers' compensation system. OIG has office locations in Albany, Buffalo, Hauppauge, New York City, Suffern, and Syracuse. Job Description OIG conducts in-depth investigations and analysis of alleged fraud, abuse, corruption, conflicts of interest, and other criminal activity in New York State agencies and entities under its jurisdiction. Each of OIG's regional offices are led by a Deputy Inspector General (DIG), who is responsible for the management of all staff assigned to that region, including legal, audit, investigative, and operations personnel. Under the direction of the Chief Deputy Inspector General, the Upstate Regional DIG supervises all OIG investigations and initiatives assigned to their region and project manages each to an efficient and thorough conclusion in conformance with all office standards. This responsibility includes reviewing, editing, and approving all letters and reports arising from OIG investigations to ensure that the findings are accurate, complete, and include appropriate recommendations.The DIG conducts regular case update meetings with investigative teams, reviews case materials, assists in the preparation for and conducting of interviews, provides advice on additional investigatory steps, and, in criminal matters, ensures that all legal and evidentiary requirements are met. In instances where recommendations are made to agencies under OIG's jurisdiction, the DIG shares responsibility for ensuring that appropriate and timely action is taken by agency management before the matter is closed.
