Position: R&H Design Manager

Job Functions: industrial design, product development or mechanical engineering

Roll and Hill is seeking an individual with a high degree of technical skills in either product design or mechanical engineering (with a design background). It will be your job to lead the design team in all aspects of product development and product improvement. This will include heavy sketch ideation, working in Solidworks, creating soft and hard prototypes. Normal working hours will be 10 am – 6 pm, M-F, onsite. You will work closely with our engineering and sourcing teams and report directly to the Creative Director.

Responsibilities:

· Manage a team of industrial designers focusing on new product development, custom orders and continuous improvement.

· Work closely with engineering, sourcing, production and sales in a collaborative on-demand manufacturing environment.

· Manage assigned projects, responsibilities, milestones and deadlines.

· Iterative prototypes using various media (foam, 3D printing, OTS parts, etc.)

· 2D spec drawings and 3D assemblies designed to the part level for handoff to engineering.

· Continuous improvement at all levels of the design process.

· Controlling quality. Roll & Hill makes high-end, decorative lighting fixtures and hardwood furniture. Quality is very important from development to delivery.

Requirements:

· Industrial design, product design or related degree.

· 8+ years experience in product design/development. Experience in lighting/furniture will be given preference.

· 3+ years experience managing a team.

· High level Solidworks experience.

· High level Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and Indesign experience.

· Excel, Word, Numbers, Pages, Google Sheets, Google Docs, etc.

· Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines concurrently.

· Ability to both offer and accept clear feedback, to prioritize projects and task around fixed deadlines, and to execute ongoing updates quickly and seamlessly.

· Critical thinking, the ability to foresee problems and suggest multiple solutions.

· Strong mechanical aptitude, with an eye for details.

· Excellent communication skills are a must, this is a team environment.

· Positive and professional attitude, with a willingness to learn.

· Ability to physically handle fragile objects, including glass, marble, and ceramics with care.

· Must be able to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.

· Must be able to move and climb a ladder safely to occasionally install a lighting fixture on site.
