The Designer, Toy has an extensive knowledge of all categories in toys (preschool, plush, action figures, dolls, outdoor sports, games, puzzle, dolls, etc.). Working side-by-side with our licensees, the Designer must take the various Paramount brands and develop fun, quality toys! They must have a strong design and color sense, as well as finely developed efficient solutions for product design development, production issues, and child safety concerns. The Designer, Toy reports to the VP Design, Hardlines in the Paramount Global Creative Group. Responsibilities:
- Coordinate product development of Paramount brands (all categories) to ensure fun, quality toys from licensees.
- Review submissions from licensees and respond in a timely manner
- Give comprehensible 3D comments to licensees and provide fully developed control drawings of characters or products when it is needed
- Follow a product line through from concept to development to achieve manufacturer's development achievements
- Attend licensees' partner weekly meetings
- Problem solves aesthetic and manufacturing issues, especially cost reduction solutions
- Assist in ensuring that products are aligned with market and consumer trends
- Brainstorm new product concepts for existing and new Paramount properties
- Implement creative strategy
- Generate creative, innovative concepts based on the direction given by the design management team, including presentations of concepts to the design team, business and executive management
- Schedule production ancillary meetings with EIC when needed
- Assist in strategizing the strategic direction of established and new brands
Basic qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree (BA, BS) or equivalent experience in Industrial Design/Toy Design/Entertainment Design
- Minimum of 2 years' experience in the Toy Manufacturing industry
Additional qualifications:
- In-depth knowledge and understanding of manufacturing processes (injection molding, roto-molding, etc) and plastic materials (polypropylene, ABS, etc)
- In-depth knowledge of soft goods (plush and dolls), basic knowledge of pattern making, construction (darts, slits, piping, etc) and fabrics (tricot, rickrack, velour, etc)
- Knowledge of games and sporting goods
- Knowledge/awareness of manufacturing costs of a toy and cost reduction strategies
- Proficiency in Illustrator and Photoshop, as well as an ability to do quick hand sketches
- Ability to think creatively and conceptually, articulate your vision both verbally and visually, and balance problems
- Knowledge of the toy, licensing and entertainment industry and current toy products
- Ability to work in a pressured and constantly changing environment
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Decisiveness, high-energy, and a sense of humor

Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
