Responsible for maintaining care, control, and custody of detainees. Incumbent must escort and return detainees to and from cell; subdue and control disorderly detainees; resolve detainee disputes; and respond to detainee incidents. Duties may include seizing and reporting found contraband and non-authorized items; patrolling work areas; and completing intake, booking, and release processes.DutiesCompletes all assignments and/or special projects to specifications as directed and within the specified time frame, budgetary requirements (if applicable), and applicable agency policies.Completes, updates, and submits or forwards accurately and thoroughly all required reports, documents and forms to the appropriate authority/personnel in a timely manner pursuant to applicable state regulations and in accordance with agency policies and procedures.Reports identified or potential maintenance, safety, and/or non-compliance findings, hazards, and incidents to the appropriate personnel and/or department; and documents the incident/findings and responds as directed or as required.Removes and returns detainee from and to cell while maintaining control of the detainee and observing officer safety at all times consistent with agency policies; escorts visitors, vendors, other personnel on official business to their destination, ensuring the safety and security of the escortees pursuant to agency policy; and searches visitors as required, locating, seizing, and reporting any found contraband and/or weapons.Maintains effective and safe care, control, and custody of detainees at all times pursuant to all agency and state rules/regulations and policies.Ensures that the detainee is properly prepared and attired to enter a specific area or leave the facility pursuant to FMJS regulations and agency policies.Controls, restrains, and subdues detainees by the use of the proper restraining techniques, control device, and/or OC without causing undue pain or injury consistent with FMJS requirements, applicable Statutes, and agency policies; and documents and notifies the appropriate supervisory staff in accordance with agency policies/procedures.Mediates and successfully resolves disputes between detainees utilizing the minimum force required, implementing or recommending the appropriate disciplinary actions consistent with FMJS regulations and agency policies.Responds to all detainee incidents on or off site in accordance with agency policies/procedures.Answers detainee questions in a professional manner, referring unanswered questions to the appropriate personnel pursuant to FMJS requirements and agency policies.Answers outside/public telephone calls and refers the calls to the appropriate personnel.Inspects detainee housing and any other areas used by detainees for cleanliness, maintenance, and security deficiencies.Seizes and reports found contraband/unauthorized items, completes an accurate, concise written report detailing the incident pursuant to FMJS requirements and agency policies, and follows all subsequent agency procedures for processing/routing the contraband and related reports.Observes work area activities and reports any unusualorabnormaldetaineebehaviorsor physicalconditionsconsistentwithFMJSrequirementsand agencypolicies.Conducts a thorough pat down search of detainees (including trustees) locating and seizing any contraband or weapons pursuant to FMJS requirements and in accordance with applicable Statutes and agency policies, and generates and submits the appropriate report if required.Conducts a strip search of the detainee, discovering and removing any hidden contraband in a manner consistent with FMJS requirements, applicable Statutes, and agency policies; locates and confiscates unauthorized detainee property/weapons/contraband consistent with applicable FMJS requirements and agency policies; and searches detainee clothing to locate and confiscate any contrab nd or weapons pursuant to FMJS requirements and in accordance with agency policies.Ensures that each detainee's identity is correctly verified prior to movement pursuant to FMJS requirements and in accordance with agency policies; checks the Detainee Identification Card/video booking movement sheet for validity and accuracy; and takes the appropriate remedial action according to agency policies/procedures when discrepancies are discovered.Observes, documents, and reports any unusual changes in detainee behavior pursuant to FMJS requirements and in accordance with agency policies.Operates the control panel to safely and securely control ingress/regress and detainee/officer communications pursuant to agency policies.Conducts a complete and thorough inventory of all keys and/or security equipment in conjunction with oncoming/outgoing shift members to ensure that all keys are accounted for and that all security devices are functioning properly before beginning/completing a shift.Maintains at all times the security and accountability for any and all keys issued or received pursuant to agency policies and state laws if applicable, ensuring that all keys are returned at the end of the shift in accordance with agency policies if required.Conducts and if required, accurately documents formal and informal detainee counts; reports formal detainee counts to the designated personnel/station consistent with DJJ/FMJS requirements and agency policies; and initiate appropriate measures to ensure that no movement of detainees occurs during the detainee count and verification except in the event of a medical emergency to ensure the accuracy and validity of the count obtained.Maintains the detainee count board in an accurate and up to date manner, properly reflecting detainee counts in accordance with agency policies/procedures and FMJS requirements; and coordinates or accurately verifies the housing/pod officer's physical detainee count with the computer generated data and correctly determine if any detainees are unaccounted for, in accordance with agency policies.Completes the intake/booking process, including taking photos, fingerprinting, issuing initial hygiene/laundry items, placing detainers/holds, notifying other agencies of arrests/holds, verifying all warrant/arrest report information for accuracy, entering arrests into AFIS, writing arrest reports, and when applicable criminal/sex offender registration.Completes release process, including completing cash bonds, surety bonds and purges; ensuring detainee is properly released according to court orders, such as released on own recognizance, transferred to another agency, time served, release by bond, administrative release, etc.; checking NCIC for wants by 10-29P, and ensuring all property is returned.Responds to emergency situations during watch as directed by a supervisor, which includes disturbances, medical emergencies, or anytime the safety and security of the cell is threatened, ensuring detainees are ordered to their assigned bunks/cells and locked down as required.Records and documents all required information in order to correctly maintain and update all housing logs including, if applicable, the 15 minute watch, single cell restriction, restraint, confinement, and any other applicable logs pursuant to FMJS/DJJ regulations and in accordance with agency policies.Records and documents all required information in order to correctly maintain and update all applicable logs within their area of responsibility pursuant to FMJS requirements and in accordance with agency policies.Updates the appropriate log and/or computer program to reflect detainee movement to and from various destinations within/outside the facility.Updates
