The Development Assistant, Principal & Major Gifts will serve a vital supportive role in helping to achieve the fundraising goals set by the Boston Childrens Hospital Trust. Working with the Principal & Major Gifts team, the Development Assistant will partner with the team to operate efficiently in its efforts to raise philanthropic support for the hospitals mission. The Development Assistant will also have a unique career development opportunity to gain experience in fundraising at a large and highly impactful organization.

This Development Assistant, Principal & Major Gifts will:

+ Assist in developing materials for use in cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding donors and prospects.

+ Maintain meeting calendar of supervisor and schedule internal and external appointments and meetings with donors, doctors, volunteers, trustees, and hospital staff. Reserve and prepare conference rooms and order refreshments for meetings and donor visits.

+ Make local, national, and/or international travel arrangements for Trust staff, and hospital staff as needed.

+ Organize donor visits, and may attend when appropriate.

+ Maintain constituent information in donor database including biographical information, Trust codes, solicitor actions and proposal information.

+ Provide general office support including answering phones, greeting and directing guests, and providing other basic administrative help as necessary.

+ Prepare invoices for the department including payment requisitions for vendors, employee reimbursements and serves as contact to resolve discrepancies. May reconcile monthly bills with overall budget.

+ Organize events including: developing and managing invitation lists, attendance, room space, refreshments and staffing the event.

+ Assist supervisor with special projects and preparation of reports and documents as needed.

+ Develop proficiency in donor database, with the ability to run basic reports and queries.

+ May serve as resource and provide training to other administrative staff.

To qualify, you must have:

+ Minimum of an Associates Degree and 4 years of fundraising related work experience. Bachelors degree preferred and would replace the experience requirement.

+ One additional year of development, marketing, events or customer service experience required, preferably at BCH.

+ Ability to develop strong relationships with others and fosters a positive organization and brand image.

+ Demonstrates good critical thinking skills

+ Strong communication (written and verbal) skills

+ Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite (WORD, Excel, PowerPoint); Ability to work with data and databases

+ Ability to proactively problem solve and recommend process improvements

+ Good time management skills
