About Fresh Youth Initiatives (FYI): FYI is a dynamic community-based organization that supports youth to reach their greatest potential. Founded in 1993, FYI's vision is to disrupt intergenerational poverty and to achieve educational equity and well-being for our community of Latinx immigrant and first-generation youth and families. In 2007, FYI planted its roots in the community, constructing a four-story headquarters and community center on West 171st Street in Washington Heights. FYI has since evolved into a multi-site, multi-service agency serving 2,000 Washington Heights/Inwood children and adults annually with programs that embrace a whole-child approach. FYI's programs are carried out by a bilingual/ bicultural staff, 90% of whom are immigrants or first-generation Americans, approximately a third of whom are former participants in our programs.
About the Position: The Part-Time Development Associate will support FYI's fundraising and development initiatives, focusing on event planning, donor engagement, newsletters, prospect research, and related activities. Working under the guidance of the Chief Revenue Officer, the Development Associate will assist with FYI's annual gala and 5K run/walk/read, which have a combined fundraising target of $400,000. This role includes responsibilities in data tracking, social media support, volunteer coordination, and stewardship of supporter-level donors, making it a well-rounded position. The Development Associate will also provide light mentorship and guidance to new junior staff members and interface with communications interns and fellows, helping them acclimate to the development team and supporting their growth. The role is part-time with a schedule of 28 hours per week (four 7-hour days) and potential for a hybrid work model. The ideal candidate has 2-3 years of nonprofit development experience, is self-motivated, detail-oriented, and passionate about FYI's mission.
Duties and Responsibilities
Event Development and Management
* Assist in planning and executing the annual gala and 5K Run/Walk/Read, supporting logistics, materials preparation, and outreach to achieve the $400,000 fundraising target.
* Coordinate event volunteers, managing recruitment, scheduling, and training.
* Help with additional donor engagement events throughout the year, including logistics and attendee engagement.
Donor Engagement and Annual Giving
* Assist with annual giving initiatives, including donor programs to build year-round relationships.
* Steward supporter-level donors through personalized thank-you notes and impact updates.
* Track engagement metrics to inform future strategies, including donor interactions and outreach.
Prospect and Funder Research
* Conduct research on prospective donors and funders, compiling relevant information to support engagement strategies.
* Stay updated on industry trends in donor engagement and fundraising.
Development Communications, Newsletters, and Grant Support
* Draft and edit development materials, such as acknowledgment letters, with oversight from the Chief Revenue Officer.
* Create content for newsletters to keep donors and stakeholders informed of FYI's mission.
* Support social media engagement for fundraising events and donor communications.
* Assist in grant proposal preparation and maintain a grant calendar for timely submissions.
Data and Impact Tracking
* Track key fundraising and engagement metrics, such as event attendance and donor retention rates.
* Compile monthly reports summarizing metrics to help inform development strategies.
Mentorship and Collaboration with Junior Staff and Interns
* Provide guidance and light mentorship to new junior staff members, helping them acclimate to the development team.
* Interface with communications interns and fellows, supporting their development and coordination with the development team.
Administrative Support
* Update and maintain accurate donor records in the database.
* Prepare and send acknowledgment letters and manage general donor correspondence.
Qualifications & Required Skills:
* 2-3 years of experience in nonprofit development, event coordination, or related fields.
* Strong organizational skills and ability to coordinate events, manage logistics, and support volunteer management.
* Proficient research skills for prospect and funder identification.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills for donor and grant materials.
* Experience in creating newsletters, donor outreach communications, and engaging in social media.
* Ability to manage multiple tasks and work collaboratively with team members.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office, G-Suite, and familiarity with donor databases.
* Self-motivated and able to work effectively under guidance.
* Bilingual Spanish a plus
Compensation: This position offers an hourly rate of $30-$35 per hour with a standard work schedule of 28 hours per week, though hours may vary based on workload. Part-time employees at Fresh Youth Initiatives benefit from a supportive environment that prioritizes their well-being and work-life balance. Key benefits include the accrual of one hour of sick leave for every 30 hours worked, up to 40 hours annually, with unused leave eligible for carryover to the following year. Employees also receive three personal days each year for personal, religious, or cultural purposes, and paid holidays for workdays between Christmas and New Year's Day, with the possibility of additional days at the discretion of the Executive Director.
