Job Description Summary: OVERALL RESPONSIBILITYThe Development Officer (DO) will maintain a portfolio of high-end annual fund donors with major gift potential, and will provide strategic oversight and implementation of the Whitehead Alumni Network. The DO will also provide strong, effective support for internal and external events in collaboration with the Manager of Advancement Operations and Donor Relations, the Senior Events Officer, and the Director of Advancement. The DO should have a proven track record in annual fund, and major gifts work, including the active management of a portfolio of high-end annual giving donors with major gift potential.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES- Work with the Director of Advancement to facilitate all aspects of the Annual Fund appeals including mailings, and electronic communications.
- Direct communications and solicitations pertaining to the Annual Fund and the Alumni Fund.
- Manage a portfolio of high-end annual gift donors with major gift potential. Work with the Director of Advancement to create an effective strategy for this portfolio including moves management plans for key prospects.
- Track and report relationship management activity including in-person visits, outreach, and solicitations.
- Make direct, in-person solicitations and work with Whitehead leadership and faculty as needed to coordinate donor stewardship, cultivation and solicitation.
- Assists with the execution of all IA events, including annual multi-day events, large receptions, and small donor gatherings and dinners, remotely held and in person.
- Participates in regular Advancement and organization-wide meetings and develop and maintain strong, collaborative working relationships with team members.
- Performs other duties as necessitated by the position or as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS- Bachelor's degree, or equivalent combination of experience and education
- A minimum of 3-5 years of successful, demonstrated experience in annual fund and major gifts fundraising with a priority for those with experience working directly with alumni networks.
- Must be highly organized, self-motivated, flexible, and able to prioritize.
- Must be able to multi-task and work well under pressure and deadlines.
- Must be able to interact comfortably and productively with internal staff, vendors, volunteers, donors, and event attendees.
- Must be able to manage multiple projects and events simultaneously with great attention to detail.
- Computer proficiency in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Knowledge of Raiser's Edge is a plus.
- Ability to travel when required for events in other cities.
