Temporary Assignments: Assignments vary in duration depending on the needs of the department. An assignment may end at any time. To obtain a regular position, the appointee will need to compete successfully in a County Exam when open.
*Assignments are expected to last approximately 12 months to 18 months depending on the need of the department.

THE POSITION
Under the general direction of the Councils and Commissions Manager, the Developmental Disabilities Coordinator provides administrative assistance to the Board of Directors of the Alameda County Developmental Disabilities Council and to the broad-based membership in fulfilling obligations related to the planning, development, coordination, review, and evaluation of public and private services for and advocacy on behalf of persons with developmental disabilities; represents the interest of Alameda County on behalf of persons with developmental disabilities at public meetings and related gatherings at State and local levels; and performs related work as required. Serves as a designated liaison representing local and regional health improvement efforts, with emphasis on populations with access and functional needs.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES
The Developmental Disabilities Coordinator, a single-position class, provides professional staff support to the Board of Directors and the broad-based membership of the Developmental Disabilities (DD) Council which is composed of consumers, parents, interested citizens, and professionals concerned with improved services for children and adults with developmental disabilities and their families. The Developmental Disabilities Coordinator is expected to attend evening and weekend meetings and events throughout Alameda County and other areas in the state. Possession of a valid California Driver's license is required.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Possession of a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in psychology, social work, sociology, public health or a closely related field.
AND
Experience:
The equivalent of four years full-time professional level experience in the direct delivery, or oversight of, services to individuals with developmental disabilities, at least one year of which was in program planning or an administrative capacity.
OR II
Experience:
The equivalent of eight years of full-time professional level experience in the direct delivery or oversight of, services to individuals with developmental disabilities, at least one year of which was in program planning and or an administrative capacity.
Substitution:
Possession of a master's degree form an accredited college or university with major coursework in psychology, social work, sociology, public health or a closely related field may substitute for two years of the required experience in pattern I above
License:
Possession of a valid California Driver's license is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of Intellectual and Developmental Disability (IDD) Service System, Regional Center Systems, State and Federal regulations relating to Developmental Disabilities
Understanding of key trends and issues for individuals with IDD including but not limited to education, employment, healthcare, transportation, housing and emergency preparedness.
