Position Function:
This position will coordinate laboratory activities associated with Diagnostic Laboratory Services at the MVRDL/PRDL in Pearl, MS.
Salary Grade: 15

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
* Coordinate the day-to-day operations of the different laboratory areas which includes problem-solving issues and ensuring effective processing.
* Maintain laboratory productivity by monitoring the workflow and workload of functional areas.
* Identify and address bottlenecks in the different diagnostic processes.
* Lead and coordinate Laboratory Operations Meetings
* Participate in the work schedule organization, for holidays, weekends, and emergency closures.
* Participate and provide support to the laboratory quality assurance program and participate in the QA committee.
* Participate in recruiting, selecting, and training of laboratory staff.
* Participate with laboratory coordinators and section heads in annual staff evaluations.
* Ensure laboratory reports are produced in a timely manner.
* Coordinate laboratory rotations of visitors, student workers and veterinary technologists
* Ensure laboratory equipment is maintained and in good working order and coordinate with section heads, laboratory coordinators, QA, and business managers to arrange for certification, and repair/replacement of equipment as needed.
* Serve as contact person for customers, stakeholders, and Diagnostic Laboratory Services in main campus (DLS), by addressing or directing calls, questions, and requests.
* Monitoring and ordering common lab supply of CO2, liquid nitrogen, and others
* Promote a high performing team environment.
* Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Biology, Medical Lab Science, Microbiology, Cell Biology and/or Molecular Biology
Three (3) years experience directly related to duties described above.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Certified Medical Technologist/Clinical Laboratory Scientist
* Master's degree.
* Experience working in a veterinary or human diagnostic laboratory. Experience supervising lab workers. Experience with quality assurance systems. Experience in financial management of a group or laboratory.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
* Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities.
* Ability and drive to solve practical problems.
* Ability to foster a cooperative work environment.
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
* Excellent multitasking skills.
* Knowledge of customer service principles, techniques, systems, and standards.
* Skill in the use of laboratory instrumentation, computers, and related software applications.
* Knowledge of quality assurance, regulatory compliance and laboratory safety requirements.
* Ability to develop and maintain record-keeping systems and procedures.
* Knowledge of the procedures and principles employed in diagnostic laboratories.
Working Conditions and Physical Effort
Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office environment. Requires occasional heavy lifting, up to 50 pounds.
