ACCOUNTABLE FOR: Will work closely with the Dietary Manager and Department Managers and maintain open communication among co-workers, which is essential to the well being of the patients, the efficient operation of the facility, and the job satisfaction of all employees. Maintains professional relationship with Supervisor, Department Manager, & co-workers. Represents the facility in hospital and nursing home activities.GENERAL PURPOSE AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:This is an important position responsible for certain food preparation, service, and sanitation. Directly responsible to the Dietary Manager. The following list of duties is not intended to be restrictive or all-inclusive. The fact that certain duties may not be listed does not limit the performance of additional duties.Perform simple food preparation tasks.
  • Cooperate in keeping the entire kitchen clean and in order at all times.
  • Keep own work area straightened and clean to aid in efficiency of work performed.
  • Report equipment repairs needed to the Dietary Manager.
  • Prevent food waste whenever possible.
  • Pour juices and beverages: (juice, coffee, tea, milk, cocoa, etc.) and serve on trays at correct temperature, neatly and in amounts called for at the proper time.
  • Fill orders for between meal nourishments.
  • Place desserts on serving dishes and serve them on trays.
  • Prepare and serve salads, fruits, dry cereals, and cold breads on trays at proper time, attractively, and at correct temperature.
  • Wrap flatware in napkins.
  • Set up trays for meals placing napkins, flatware, condiments, straws and diet cards on trays.
  • Assist with tray service to residents in dining area and pick up dirty trays after meal is served.
  • Prepare trays and deliver cart to hospital.
  • Wipe dining tables following meals.
  • Assemble, prepare for washing, and wash dishes. Store clean dishes in proper places and in a sanitary manner.
  • Maintain daily care of dishwasher and dishwashing area, lavatory, sink, salad worktable, dish storage cabinet, and food carts.
  • Empty trashcans daily and clean them thoroughly. Replace liners and return cans to station.
  • Assist with care of floors in kitchen and dining room by sweeping and/or mopping at a time when food is not being prepared or served.
  • Assist with general cleaning and food preparation tasks as needed.
  • Receive and put up stock as assigned.
  • Perform assigned duties as directed by the Dietary Manager to maintain meal schedules.
  • REQUIREMENTS:Education/Training Experience: High School Diploma or GED equivalent. Minimum related experience in related field.Verbal and Written Communication Skills: Must be able to read, write and speak the English language. Must be able to follow oral & written directions.Interpersonal Skills: Relates cooperatively and constructively with all patients, guests, families, physicians, peers, and all healthcare members as well as anyone that JHS' employees interact with while performing their daily duties.Essential Technical/Motor Skills: Moderate eye-hand coordination. Must be able to operate cooking appliances.Essential Mental Abilities: Knowledgeable and competent to perform essential functions. Must be able to deal with a variety of personalities with whom the employer comes into contact with, both pleasant and irate. Essential Sensory Requirements: Ability to visually and audibly perform all essential functions.Essential Physical Requirements: High amount of walking, standing, sitting, reaching, pulling, pushing, stooping, and kneeling. Present up to date physical examination showing freedom from communicable diseases, and in good health and physical condition. Minimal lifting requirements of forty (40) to fifty (50) pounds.Exposure to Hazards: Minimal exposure to infectious diseases, blood, and body fluids.Other: Assume responsibility for professional growth and expertise.Standards of Performance:
