DSPs work directly with individuals with physical and/or intellectual disabilities to assist them in becoming integrated into their community or the least restrictive environment.A DSP helps individuals lead self-directed lives, contributes to the community, assists with activities of daily living, and encourages behaviors that enhance community inclusion. DSPs may provide support at home, work, school, church, and other community places, acting as advocates for the individuals they support.Duties and Responsibilities:Assist with daily living skills (e.g., lifting, transferring, toileting, personal hygiene, laundry, meal preparation).Promote appropriate community integration and social interaction (e.g., visiting family, friends, church/temple).Implement outcomes developed through a Support Plan.Complete paperwork as assigned including documentation (e.g., incident reports, outcomes, log entries).Administer and record medications pursuant to State and Agency requirements, where applicable.Accompany residents on medical appointments when needed.Attend all meetings and in-services as requested by supervisor.Maintain living environment in accordance with D.D.A. regulations and health department standards.Provide transportation to consumers as needed.Be available in emergency situations as they arise.Work cooperatively with professional and paraprofessional staff in the interest of the consumer.Communicate with and update the Waiver Support Coordinator on a regular basis.Assist the consumer with recreational, cultural, and vacation plans of their choice.Provide independent and functional living instructions to consumers.Complete all state-required trainings.Assist with shopping (e.g., food, clothes).Education and Experience:High School Diploma or G.E.D. required.Must have a valid driver's license and a clean driving record.Must be able to work independently.Must have 1 year of experience with disabled children/adults, nursing home, or home care.Requirements:Background screening.Good moral affidavit.Mandatory Trainings required by APD:Zero ToleranceHIPAADirect Care Core CompetenciesHIV/Infection Control - Blood-borne PathogensCPR/First Aid (from American Red Cross, American Heart Association, or Health & Safety Institute; CPR online training is not acceptable).#J-18808-Ljbffr
