DescriptionJob Title: Direct Support Professional Department: Community LivingReports to: House Manager Job Summary: Direct Support Professional assists individuals with disabilities, and helps them live an enriched life, while providing care and guidance. These duties may include personal care such as bathing, dressing, toileting, transportation, and community integration. They foster independence and personal choice by guiding individuals in acquiring necessary skills, such as social behavior or interpersonal competence so individuals have greater self-reliance in their day-to-day lives. Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Supports and Services -
    • Provides or assists with the preparation of meals and cleanliness of home.
    • Oversees the proper administration of medication.
    • Assists each person to portray a positive image.
    • Provides an environment of safety and security for all persons.
    • Provides transportation, when needed.
  • Personal Plans -
    • Knows, respects, and supports each person's Personal Plan.
    • Assist in all processes of personal plan development, including implementation, teaching plans, collecting information, monthly reviews and record keeping.
  • Health and Safety -
    • Maintains home to reflect a safe, clean, and healthy environment.
    • Ensures vehicles are in good condition and operates in a safe manner and follows Vehicle Guidelines.
    • Informs supervisor/office of any maintenance needs.
    • Conducts and documents fire and storm drills.
  • General -
    • Provides a positive, appropriate relationship with families, general community, DMH personnel, and fellow staff members.
    • Cooperates with public relations efforts as requested.
    • Attends staff meetings, workshops, etc., as requested.
    • Any changes in scheduling must be approved by the House Manager.
    • Properly completes all required paperwork.
    • Informs supervisors of any relevant information.
    • Be cognizant of the Quality Outcomes in all decisions.
    • Direct Support Night Aid must stay away during scheduled shifts.
    • DSP must stay awake during scheduled shifts with the exception of the Sleeper position.
Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Training - Agency Orientation, First Aid, CPR, Abuse & Neglect, HIPAA, Positive Behavior Support, Level 1 Medication Aide, and a valid Class E operator's license.
Education and Experience:
  • High School graduate or GED
Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, push, pull, reach, lift, sit and walk for a period of time.
