What is a Direct Support Professional (DSP)? Wikipedia says - and we agree - Direct Support Professionals are people who work directly with people with physical disabilities, intellectual disabilities, or developmental disabilities with the aim of assisting the individual to become integrated into his/her community or the least restrictive environment. In other words - we are working with our individuals towards being as independent as possible while still being integrated in their community. For some that looks like total physical assistance, for others it is deescalating a crisis and working on social skills.What kinds of things does a DSP do?
  • Create a safe, kind, and empathetic environment in homes they work in.
  • Support our individuals with every day care - this could be helping a person dress, feeding someone, brushing someone's teeth, changing a brief, etc.
  • Document the services they provide the individual in our documentation program
  • Follow an individual's medical care as ordered - maybe it is cutting food a certain way or administering medications.
  • Help our individuals get into their community - movies, parks, restaurants, sporting events, dances, bingo!
  • Assist the individual with your everyday errands - banking, grocery shopping, medical appointments, visiting friends or family.
  • Adhere to the agency's policies and procedures
We are hiring for the following position:Evenings
  • Scheduled 3pm-10pm, full-time, rotating weekends off
Overnight
  • Scheduled 10p-7am, full-time, rotating weekends off
What qualifications are required to be a DSP?
  • High School Diploma, GED, or suitable equivalent.
  • Completion of provided training.
  • Completion of a criminal background check
  • Proficient computer skills.
  • Valid driver's license
  • Be 18+ years old
Pay
  • Starts at $18.00
  • DSP's have the option to complete a Certified DSP program and immediately earn an additional 6% per hour.
  • Annual review and raise every year
