The Opportunity:
As the Director of Business Analytics, you will lead the Business Analytics team and be responsible for delivering analysis and data-driven insights that power the business with timely and actionable information. This position plays a central and critical role in leveraging data-driven insights to help drive real business results in a dynamic industry. Expertise in data analysis and strong leadership skills are crucial to enable you to guide the company toward achieving its goals and objectives. This role works in our headquarter location in the Chicago Loop, in a hybrid model (Tuesday-Thursday in office; Monday and Friday remote) and reports to the VP of FP&A.
How your role contributes to the success of Vivid Seats:
- Analytics Strategy: Develop and oversee strategy to enable and ensure data-driven decision-making across pricing, marketing, product, and our ticketing marketplaces.
- Data Strategy: Lead the provision of clean, easy-to-use data across the company, working in partnership with Data Engineering and the greater Technology organization.
- Data Access: Manage business visualization tools (Looker, Tableau) and platforms ensuring data accuracy, accessibility, and availability.
- Performance Monitoring: Create and maintain the necessary structures to provide monitoring of daily and weekly performance trending with ongoing adjustments and recommendations.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with various departments and business leaders to understand their data needs to provide effective support and facilitate data-driven decision making across the company.
- Innovation & Improvement: Stay updated with business trends and technologies. Propose and implement improvements in data, reporting, and analytical tools and processes. Inspire and drive the team to operate as a best-in-class analytics function.
- Leadership: Provide strategic leadership for the Business Analytics team, setting overall goals and priorities and ensuring the team's alignment to organizational objectives. Lead, develop, and coach a team of analytics professionals, providing guidance and mentorship to foster a high-performance culture.
How your role expectations will progress as the Director of Business Analytics in the first 30, 90, and 180 days:
30 days in:
- Learn how ticket marketplaces operate and acquire an in-depth understanding of our business model, focusing on the marketplace dynamics and the analytical needs of various teams across the company.
- Acclimate to team and company norms, business objectives, and Vivid Seats values. In month one, you are conducting an ‘as-is' assessment of the current state of affairs for people, processes, and key technologies.
- Complete a comprehensive dive into our data sources and systems; understand the tools that are used to access and report on data.
- Dig in with the team to understand what each of their responsibilities entail and evaluate and understand our existing processes and reporting capabilities.
- Meet, engage with, and start to develop relationships with key stakeholders.
- Gain an understanding of the key competencies, needs, gaps, and challenges across the company as it relates to data and reporting needs, and within the team as it relates to organizational structure, bandwidth, skills, and people.
90 days in:
- Provide and action organizational and process improvements where needed.
- You are setting and prioritizing objectives for the team and nurturing an expedient and insightful analytical culture.
- Deepen team integration by providing direct guidance and support, fostering a strong team environment.
- Working with the Data Engineering team, you are formulating best practices going forward including assessing the need for a more formalized data governance framework.
180 days in:
- You are acting as the strategic owner of the function driving value to the rest of the company.
- Have developed strong partnerships with stakeholders across the organization and are regularly meeting with key constituents.
- Have established standards, methods, and best practices within the Business Analytics team to ensure the delivery of best-in-class reporting, analysis, and relevant output and recommendations.
- Initiated a data governance process and framework across the organization.
- Have set team goals for the upcoming year that align to overall business objectives.
What You'll Bring:
- Minimum of 8 years leading a high-performing analytics team, with progressive career experience in analytics with hands-on experience working with data methods and analysis.
- Strong business acumen alongside the technical chops to pick things up quickly.
- Expertise working with data visualization tools and techniques (e.g. Looker, Tableau, SQL, Power BI, Python); experience working with Google Analytics a strong plus.
- Strong background in statistical analysis and analytical methods to derive insights.
- Effective communication skills are necessary including the ability to distill complex data sets into simple concepts and clear, concise, and compelling recommendations.
- Ability to accurately scope out tasks and projects in order to orchestrate the right people and processes to achieve the end goal or objective; nimble enough to anticipate and react to changes and roadblocks and can evaluate results and pivot when necessary.
- Strong leadership skills with a focus on mentorship, teamwork, and collaboration.
- An understanding of how to build relationships and establish trust with cross-functional stakeholders to ensure effective teamwork and accomplish complex objectives.
- Desire to work in a fast-paced and dynamic industry.
