Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):Bachelor's degree (foreign equivalent or higher). Five (5) years of full-time experience in Business Intelligence (BI), information management, programming or a related field. Proficiency with BI tools and platforms such as Tableau, Power BI, QlikView, SAS, or similar. Experience with data warehousing technologies and data integration tools. Proficiency in programming languages commonly used in data analysis and BI, such as SQL, Python, or R.
Preferred Qualifications:Master's degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in Business Intelligence, Data Science, Analytics, or a related field. Experience in a university and/or nonprofit setting. Experience with fundraising, philanthropy, alumni relations, and/or donor cultivation. Proven experience in leading and managing a team of BI professionals.
Brief Description of Duties: The Stony Brook University Advancement Director, Business Intelligence supports University Advancement's mission by helping an organization leverage data to make informed decisions. The Director, Business Intelligence will be responsible for: Developing and implementing BI strategies that align with organizational goals, focusing on data management, analytics, and reporting. Oversee data storage, processing, and integration to ensure quality and integrity. Create and manage BI tools and dashboards, monitor KPIs, and generate reports to support business performance. They will partner closely with The Director of Records Management and Data Governance and the Stony Brook Foundation leadership team to support Stony Brook University Advancements goals. This incumbent should possess knowledge of statistical methods and techniques to analyze and interpret complex data.
- Strategy & Project Management: Partner with Advancement leadership and key stakeholders to define strategic initiatives, key performance indicators, and success criteria. Oversee the execution of strategic initiatives, providing direction, guidance, and support to ensure alignment with Advancement's goals and objectives. Projects will include but not limited to Technology Evaluation: Evaluate and recommend BI tools, technologies, and platforms. Stay updated on industry trends and advancements to ensure the organization uses the most effective and up-to-date tools. Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with senior management and other departments to understand their data needs and translate them into actionable insights. Ensure that BI solutions align with business requirements.
- Data Visualization: Create and oversee the development of data visualizations and reports that effectively communicate complex data insights to non-technical stakeholders.
- Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to streamline data processes and improve efficiency. Implement best practices for data governance, data quality, and analytics processes.
- Compliance and Security: Ensure that data handling practices comply with relevant regulations and standards. Implement measures to protect data privacy and security.
- Reporting and Analytics: develop and implement robust reporting and analytics frameworks to monitor and evaluate Advancement's performance. Generate comprehensive reports and dashboards to provide actionable insights for decision-making.
- Relationship Management: Develop and strengthen strategic partnerships with internal and external stakeholders, Advancement and Data Services leadership, and other Stony Brook University Departments by fostering trust, collaboration, and open communication to support performance, strategic direction, and growth initiatives. Develop relationships with other departments at the University that use Business Intelligence, such as the Office of Institutional Research.
- Leadership: Manage the Business Intelligence team, providing strong leadership to foster growth, development and collaboration. Implement team wide strategies, develop best practices, and integrate new technologies to ensure the success of the Business Intelligence team.
- Growth/Development: Participate in leadership development programs offered by organizations or educational institutions to enhance strategic thinking and leadership skills.
- Other duties as assigned.
