Duties and responsibilities, as they align to Ryan's Key Results

People:

  • Work directly with executive leadership and lines of business to define our vision for AI/ML in tax as a part of the overall technology strategy.
  • Drive development of product strategy and associated roadmaps working in conjunction with the CDO, VP Data, business stakeholders and product development teams.
  • Establish, and take ownership of the strategies and programs of work that realize that vision.
  • Lead the development, recruitment, and retention of a high-performing team.
  • Mentor and coach high-potential leaders, preparing them for future leadership roles.
  • Maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that encourages productive interactions with customers, co-workers, and supervisors.
  • Develop and engage with team members by creating a motivating work environment that recognizes, holds team members accountable, and rewards strong performance.

Client:

  • Own the adoption and outcomes of shipped AI/ML solutions as defined by key stakeholders.
  • Drive initiatives to completion within budget, with the right scope, and on-time.
  • Analyzing user feedback and activity and iterate to improve the services and user experience.
  • Collaborate with other senior leaders across departments to ensure that data strategies align with broader business initiatives and that cross-functional data needs are met.

Value:

  • Define the AI/ML direction for the organization, evaluating what upcoming technologies mean to our vision, strategy, and products.
  • Collaborate with Engineering in scaling proofs of concept and prototypes to production.
  • Partner with Engineering, Data Governance, and other groups to ensure that data security, privacy and other dimensions of digital trust are baked into our solutions from the foundation up.
  • Leverage your industry network and appetite for technical journals and conferences to stay on top of tech trends, experimenting with and learning new technologies, and understanding the latest advances.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

The Director, AI/ML will be responsible for the full lifecycle of our AI and machine learning solutions across the enterprise and Tax.com software portfolio. This position is a unique blend of Product and Technical (Data Science / ML) responsibilities. The ideal candidate should possess these skills:

  • Strong understanding of state-of-the-art NLP, Deep Learning, Machine Learning, and AI solutions.
  • Fluency in the advanced mathematics of machine learning (MS or higher in Mathematics, Statistics or Engineering strongly preferred).
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and energize high-performing technical teams.
  • Proven ability to interface with all levels of the organization, including domain experts, C-suite, Product and Application Engineering teams.

Education and Experience:

  • Minimum: Masters Degree in Mathematics, Computer Science, Statistics or Engineering.
  • Strongest candidates will have a Ph. D in Mathematics or Computer Science (ML Focus).
  • Demonstrated experience identifying, testing, and developing ideas that resulted in shipped code.
  • Strong experience in a Product Management, Data Product, or Data Science/Analytics Leadership Role.

Computer Skills:

  • Fluency in Python and state of the art Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence techniques.
  • LLMs, Transformers, NLP techniques, Deep Learning, Optimization, Computer Vision, CNNs, LSTMs, common evaluation metrics and optimization techniques.
  • Experience with PyTorch and Azure services strongly preferred.

Supervisory Responsibilities:This role will have supervisory responsibilities for a team of experienced AI/ML leaders.

Work Environment:

  • Standard indoor working environment.

Compensation:• For certain California based roles, the base salary hiring range for this position is $183,000.00 - $261,800.00• For other California based locations, the base salary hiring range for this position is $168,000.00 - $240,350.00• For Colorado based roles, the base salary hiring range for this position is $160,000.00 - $228,800.00• For New York based roles, the base salary hiring range for this position is $183,000.00 - $261,800.00• For Washington based roles, the base salary hiring range for this position is $168,000.00 - $240,350.00• The Company makes offers based on many factors, including qualifications and experience. Certain roles may be eligible for incentive compensation.
