Job Description: The Director of Events & Conference Services is responsible for managing a team of professionals that deliver quality events on the Goucher campus and our Center for Performing Arts. The Director will deliver a customer-focused experience while managing business operations. The Director will also be expected to manage and develop a team of event specialists and drive collaboration with campus partners and vendors. The Director's successful performance will be judged by the ability to provide a customer experience that garners repeat business and customer satisfaction. The ideal candidate will be skilled in collaboration and an excellent communicator and requires a technical theater background. Essential Job Functions: A. Develop and implement a business based, customer service focused operating plan capable of securing external events (performances, meetings, conferences, weddings, athletic competitions, etc.) best served by existing campus and virtual event spaces. On a monthly basis determine and review with their leadership, the department's success in meeting annual revenue targets and other agreed upon performance metrics. B. Responsibility for all the technical functioning of our three primary venues (Kraushaar Auditorium, Merrick Lecture Hall, and the Atheneum venue space) with supervisory responsibilities for Audio/Video Technician staff. Serve as the primary point of contact for all external event clients. Collaborate with academic events staff and facilities events staff to make sure we can meet all tech specifications for an event. C. Manage partnerships with external non-profit partners. Coordinate a mutually beneficial exchange from partners at other community service driven organizations. Manage the successful completion of contract terms discussions, contract execution, and all pre-event duties. Lead a team of event staff responsible for internal and external Goucher hosted events. Serve as the event coordinator whenever necessary. D. Work with the Events & Conferencing team to develop and implement new standard operating procedures for both external and internal events. This should also include virtual events. Establish protocols for the resources (e.g., staffing, signage, décor, etc.) needed to ensure each event meets the new standard. • Conduct post-event client surveys to assess the success of all Goucher controlled event components (e.g., staffing, climate, lighting, parking, wayfinding, landscaping, etc.). • Institute a development plan targeted to equip team members with customer service and professional skills necessary to support the operating plan. E. Run weekly event meetings (Campus Safety, Campus Facilities, any other groups needed to support the event). F. Will be responsible for ensuring that the department meets identified sales goals by coaching and mentoring a sales staff member. G. Actively participate in and direct large scale campus events. H. Have oversight for event marketing, and of the events department social media platforms to ensure the existing campus event spaces are known to potential external clients and internal departments. Ensure external events with connections to Goucher's mission and overarching initiatives are marketed to the internal community. I. Work with College stakeholders to develop and maintain annual event calendars. Coordinate shared use of facilities. J. Identify facility improvements needed to first maintain then ultimately improve market position. Determine the term necessary for revenue generation to fully realize a return on investment for any recommended capital improvements. Education: Required: Bachelor's Degree Preferred: Master's Degree in Arts Administration or similar field. Professional Experience: Required: 5 years of progressively responsible experience in event management for the performing arts or a background in managing events within a college or university environment. Must have technical theater experience. Experience required with negotiations, contract execution, the actual coordination of event activities. Understands the basics of running an audio system or lighting system. Experience with an Event Management System (EMS). Preferred: Experience running productions in a performing arts theatre.
